Responsibilities:

As a key Leader of the R& D Data Science & Digital Health organization, you will report to the Chief R& D Data Science Officer to design and implement the Artificial Intelligence Transformation Agenda. You will be responsible for shaping AI implementation strategy, building enterprise-wide AI capabilities to accelerate wide adoption, ensuring responsible AI implementation, and driving large-scale AI adoption across the organization.

Leveraging your expertise in AI-driven business transformation, you will collaborate with R& D divisions, HR, Learning & Development (L& D), and IT and Innovative Medicine stakeholders to enhance data and AI literacy programs and ensure AI implementation aligns with J& J’s global AI vision. The Global Head of AI Transformation will lead a high-performing team of AI and transformation managers, change management, and AI Governance fostering a culture of innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and execution.

Strategy and Competency Building

  • Design and implement AI transformation strategy through the development and deployment of cross-functional collaboration models, ensuring AI expertise is embedded across Research and Development and broader collaborator’s teams.
  • Ensure organizational AI adoption, aligning with leadership priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Identify high-impact AI use cases and practical applications that enhance productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Build and lead a world-class AI transformation team, driving AI adoption across R& D and the broader organization. Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and career development for direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Establish an AI Center of Excellence and chair an AI transformation steering committee, ensuring best practices, governance, and execution frameworks are in place.

AI Capability Building & Learning Strategy

  • Lead AI capability-building across J& J R& D, equipping teams with AI skills to drive innovation in drug discovery and clinical research.
  • Partner with Learning & Development (L& D) to scale AI literacy programs across teams and leadership levels.
  • Design and deliver AI education programs, workshops, and thought leadership sessions to empower teams to integrate AI into their workflows.

Change Management & Communication

  • Drive stakeholder engagement to foster an AI-first culture and ensure AI solutions are effectively adopted.
  • Work closely with HR, L& D, IT, R& D, clinical, regulatory, and commercial teams to integrate AI seamlessly into business operations.
  • Translate complex AI concepts into relatable, practical applications for employees across R& D functions.

Implementation and Governance

  • Define and execute a scalable AI transformation strategy that aligns with J& J’s global AI vision.
  • Partner with IT to oversee AI implementation and ensure alignment with enterprise technology strategies.
  • Develop a framework for tracking AI effectiveness, balancing short-term adoption metrics with long-term business impact.
  • Partner with Government Affairs, Legal, Compliance and other enterprise functions to oversee responsible AI implementation, ensuring compliance with FDA, EMA, and global regulatory frameworks.
  • Establish R& D AI usage policies, aligned with J& J corporate governance and industry best practices.
  • Contribute shaping AI governance frameworks that promote transparency, fairness, and ethical AI use.
  • Support the creation of AI policies and guidelines, ensuring trustworthy AI adoption.

External Engagement & Thought Leadership

  • Serve as recognized AI leader in the field and represent JNJ in industry and across sector venues to elevate JNJ brand on AI transformation agenda.
  • Build partnerships with academic institutions, AI research bodies, startups, and industry consortia to stay at the forefront of AI advancements.

Qualifications

  • A minimum education level of a master’s degree or MBA is required
  • A minimum of 15 years' experience is required in business transformation, digital innovation, and large-scale capability building in pharma, healthcare, or technology sectors.
  • Experience in healthcare and pharmaceutical industry is required and additional consumer, marketing and/or tech market experience is preferred.
  • Experience leading AI specific transformations is strongly preferred.

  • Critical experience in developing, communicating, implementing and executing enterprise strategies with large change management efforts requirements.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise AI and Generative AI applications.
  • Highly connected with latest trends and releases of AI tools within and across industries and deep familiarity with AI technology and methods (Gen AI, and more traditional machine learning, quantitative methods, and digital health technologies)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage with C-suite executives, business leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Clear understanding of AI governance and responsible AI frameworks.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $212, 000 to $391, 000.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
