Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson, a world leader in the healthcare industry, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager for Functional Engineering for our Global Touchless Services, EDI, and Automated Customer Order Experience (CX) capabilities.

The Senior Manager, Functional Engineer, will be responsible for the strategic direction for technology supporting our Automated CX capabilities globally. The individual will collaborate with Senior Business and Technology Leaders to identify, prioritize, and deliver solutions in line with our autonomous supply chain strategy. This role requires an effective communicator with robust business relationship management skills, technical expertise in EDI platforms, and proven leadership in delivering complex, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Innovation

  • Drive the adoption of industry-leading strategies, architecture, and rapid prototyping methodologies, promote a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and communicate the strategic roadmap for CX capabilities, ensuring alignment with overarching business objectives and enterprise-wide digital transformation strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners to define and communicate the vision for EDI, EAI, API, and other integration capabilities, establishing a comprehensive product roadmap to guide development, enhancements, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Develop and execute roadmap items, according to SDLC/delivery methodologies, operational procedures, governance frameworks, pricing models, & product quality standards.
  • Lead efforts to drive integration strategies with Johnson & Johnson’s customers, Value-Added Networks (VANs), and third-party logistics providers to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of order management solutions.
  • Spearhead service industrialization initiatives aimed at standardization of technology, expertise, cost, value, scalability, and continuous service improvement to optimize operational efficiency.

Solution Delivery & Program Management

  • Utilize a unique blend of leadership skills, technical expertise, and business insights to translate complex requirements into innovative, actionable solutions that deliver measurable value and strategic advantage.
  • Lead the design and rapid prototyping of user-centric, industry-leading solutions that enable the delivery of Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) with agility. Emphasize speed, quality, and scalability to accelerate time-to-market.
  • Oversee the end-to-end management of global EDI, EAI, API, Agentic AI, and other Automated Order Automation solutions, supporting the needs of the Innovative Medicine and Medical Technology divisions.
  • Manage project intake processes, solution architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing operational support.
  • Ensure the seamless deployment of touchless, self-service solutions that meet scope, quality, schedule, and budget requirements and Implement governance frameworks to monitor project quality, performance metrics, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Promote and embed agile and best practice delivery methodologies to ensure high-quality, iterative development aligned with key business performance indicators.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with senior-level business and technology leaders to identify critical needs, assess potential solutions, and prioritize initiatives that drive operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and patient outcomes.
  • Lead and manage multiple high-performance teams, including Scrum squads and technical specialists, ensuring optimal resource skills alignment, clear scope definition, and fiscal accountability.
  • Foster a culture of empowerment, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation within teams.
  • Oversee the delivery of more than 30 concurrent projects, ensuring each achieves its intended value within scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
  • Build and nurture a strong talent pipeline through recruiting, mentoring, development, and retention of future leaders across Johnson & Johnson.

Financial & Business Planning

  • Lead business planning & budgeting initiatives, manage organizational financial P& L, and establish sustainable pricing & financial recovery model and statement of work.
  • Articulate the value of engineering and integration services to internal stakeholders, illustrating ROI and ensuring alignment with broader business and technology strategies.
  • Drive demand generation and service marketing initiatives to promote service offerings both internally and externally, ensuring growth and continuous pipeline development.
  • Maintain alignment with business stakeholders concerning project scope, financials, resources, schedules, and overall delivery outcomes.
  • Ensure that all initiatives result in tangible, measurable outcomes that contribute to our enterprise goals of operational efficiency, customer-centricity, and innovation.

Qualifications & Experience:

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science, mathematics, or related field is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Professional Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Information Technology, with a proven history in EDI and supply chain technologies.
  • 5 years in Customer Experience, Customer Order Management, and Supply Chain automation.
  • 5 years’ Experience with EDI standards, APIs, Web Methods, MuleSoft and related integration technologies.
  • 3 Years of demonstrated leadership in managing large, complex technical teams.
  • Firsthand experience with EDI platform management, technical architecture design, and implementation. (minimum of 3 years).
  • Certification in EDI platforms such as IBM Sterling Commerce, SAP BTP, or equivalent, is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Agentic Frameworks, with the ability to incorporate innovative automation practices in the CX area highly desirable.
  • Strong ability to deliver complex solutions utilizing Agile and other modern delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts effectively to diverse business audiences.
  • Proven leadership in building and motivating high-performing teams committed to delivering measurable value.
  • Product and service engineering experience, including managing external customer relationships and third-party service providers (including 3PLs and VANs).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

$120, 000-$207, 000
