We are searching for the best talent for Director, Real World Research, Scientific Evidence & Policy Research (SEPR) at Scientific Affairs to be located in Titusville, NJ

Purpose: We are seeking a candidate to enhance our real world research capability. In this capacity the Director, Real World Research will establish and maintain a leadership role within the RW Research Group and proactively collaborating with fellow researchers on the design, analytics, interpretation, and communication of results of RWE studies in support of JJIM products, solutions, and/or disease areas of focus.

You will be responsible for:

The individual will possess profound understanding of business need and data sources as well as skills in RW research methods and advanced technology (AI/ML) to be able to deliver innovative RW studies with quality and speed to meet critical business need in a timely fashion. The individual will serve as a core member on respective IETs to contribute to the strategic discussions and setting RW research plans. This individual will provide technical leadership to colleagues and senior leaders across the organization in evidence generation, communication roles promoting novel and innovative analytic techniques, and ensure productive working relationships within a matrix environment.

The individual is expected to bring innovative/advanced RW research methods, AI/ML and/or advanced technology into real world research to enable or enhance research capability on the RW Research Team from innovatively managing and utilizing databases to advancing/adopting innovative research methods to enhance RW Research Team’s capability and efficiency.

This individual will closely collaborate with RWV& E Leaders, VAP leaders, RW Alliance Leaders, Health Economics and Outcomes Research Leaders, and Data Science Leaders. This individual will also take a leadership role in process improvement, training, standards development for performing scientifically rigorous analysis for observational studies addressing economic, clinical and outcomes research questions. Leadership and/or participation in the authorship of publications and presentations is expected. The successful candidate must be constantly eager to expand their strategical, analytical, and communicating expertise with a focus on RWE studies and be able to effectively manage handling numerous projects simultaneously. This individual may have people management responsibility in the RW Research Group. Mentorship of other researchers is expected, as is participation in the external professional community. This role will also maintain strong relationships with external partners including methods experts, clinical & healthcare experts, market access experts, AI/ML experts, and data science experts.


Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree is required, and a PhD degree is strongly preferred, in a relevant discipline such as statistics, mathematics, economics, epidemiology, operations research, public health, or health administration.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant prior work experience or 8 years with a doctorate degree in the healthcare industry within a pharmaceutical (or related) company, consultancy, academia, or within a health system is required.
  • Academic training and industry or payer experience in statistics, health economics, and outcomes research is required.
  • Expertise and experience in designing and conducting (hands on) observational studies (prospective and retrospective), health economics and outcomes research, real world evidence and/or pharmacoepidemiology studies is required.
  • Extensive experience with analytics, coding and management of administrative claims datasets, electronic health/medical records, survey data, and/or clinical registry data required.
  • An in-depth knowledge of biostatistics, program evaluation, predictive modeling and/or statistical computing required.
  • Experience in developing and using economic and statistical models such as regression modeling techniques, mixed models, survival analysis, propensity score matching/modeling and non-parametric methods is required.
  • Expertise with a broad range of biostatistical, econometric, clinical trial, and/or epidemiological research methods required
  • Expertise and experience in designing and executing real world head to head comparative studies and causal inference research using real world data is required, such as Target Trial Emulation, prevalent user design, marginal structural models
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in different therapeutic areas are required
  • Self-motivation, self-initiation, and ability to meet deadlines are required.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g. SAS, R, SQL, Python) is required.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience required.
  • Experience with applied analyses in one or more of the following therapeutic areas is required: Hematology, Solid tumor, Immunology, Neuroscience, or Cardiopulmonary.
  • Experience in indirect treatment comparison including MAIC and network meta-analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with alternative payment models (such as risk-based, outcomes-based, or value based contracting) are preferred.
  • Extensive experience with government databases such as SEER and MEPS preferred.
  • Innovative thinker and openness to apply novel research concepts and techniques preferred.
  • Firm understanding of the uses of evidence-based medicine and comparative effectiveness analyses for health policy decision-making preferred.
  • Worked in a multidisciplinary team environment preferred.
  • Managed the statistical activities of external service providers preferred.
  • Experience interacting and advising/consulting with external collaborative partners on joint projects preferred.
  • Experience interacting with academia, health systems and/or payers preferred.
  • Experience in people management or mentoring preferred.
  • Approximately 20% travel required (mostly national; rare international travel).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

$160, 000 - $276, 000

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
