Purpose: The Director, Research & Development (R& D) Agile Procurement will be accountable for ensuring alignment between Procurement strategy, Janssen's Business Plan, and critical Therapeutic and Functional teams across the Global R& D business. This role requires a leader that is a strong relationship builder, strategic problem solver and influencer.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensure that the Procurement organization delivers results in support of Janssen strategies and objectives.
  • Work to align Procurement's activities directly with business leaders inclusive of Therapeutic Area and Functional R& D, Finance, Legal, and Global Services teams.
  • Lead operational execution of the Research and Development categories, and other categories when required, and their respective strategies for Janssen.
  • Direct and manage a team of 6-8 people located in various regions and countries whose responsibility it is to understand the Janssen business and connect this with category strategies, ensuring optimal use of suppliers.
  • Lead the operational execution of the global category strategies and their global and regional implementation, including the delivery of sourcing and contracting services for certain activities.
  • Lead major strategic negotiations for owned categories, or on behalf of the Janssen business, as required.
  • Build and manage relationships across Janssen that result in dynamic dialogue, a broad range of perspectives and information critical to the development of efficient approaches and solutions.
  • Engage directly with budget owners at the Vice President & President level to drive business planning and strategic decision making across all relevant category spend families.
  • Understand long range (3-5 year) requirements for Janssen R& D teams identified through strategic planning to guide development of category strategies and Procurement process.
  • Identify business demand requirements and partner with Category Leaders to deliver annual value improvements and drive competitive advantage through the supplier base.
  • Identify pharmaceutical industry trends that Procurement must build into its category strategies to ensure sustainable relevance to Janssen.
  • Ensure drug discovery, preclinical, and clinical services are supported and prioritized within the category teams and work across all R& D Categories, Global Services, and Therapeutic Areas to ensure seamless execution to launch commitments.
  • Lead resolution of sophisticated business problems in partnership with our supplier base including deployment of Supplier Enabled Innovation programs.
  • Continuously monitor the needs of the business to ensure their requirements are met and implement Procurement process improvement where critical to achieve the same.
  • Key business partner to Janssen business and corresponding leadership teams in strategy development and Procurement delivery.
  • Lead the Research & Development Agile Team in the operational execution of the global category strategies.
  • Attract, retain, develop, and motivate talent in the team.
  • Participate in Global/Regional team meetings and provide updates to Global Procurement Leadership.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelors or equivalent University Degree is required. MBA or further advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years related work experience
  • Strong business acumen to understand challenges through the eyes of the regional business leaders
  • Demonstrated influencing skills to persuade others to change behavior in pursuit of a common goal
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills at the senior executive level, as well as with peers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently present complex information to senior executives and large audiences
  • Broad-based understanding of core procurement areas of focus (spend management, category management and supplier management)
  • Strong project and change management capabilities
  • Demonstrated learning agility, and the ability to improve both yourself and the people around you
  • Experience in Life Science, Medical Technology, and/or FMCG fields
  • Proven track record in attracting and developing talent
  • Ability to inspire an organization to achieve stretch goals
  • High level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community, based on broad experience
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant change programs
  • Multi-country and Multi-industry experience with experience across geographies of varied sizes and businesses
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions
  • People management experience
  • Requires up to 10% domestic and international travel

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

$146, 000-$251, 850

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
