Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent to join our MedTech Surgery team as an Associate Engineer, NPD, located in Raritan, NJ.

Purpose: In this role, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team focused on pioneering the next generation of wound closure and healing products that make a tangible impact on patient care. Working closely with experienced engineers in our labs, you will primarily support the design, development, and testing of absorbable and non-absorbable sutures and barbed sutures.

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

  • Provide technical support to multidisciplinary project teams in the design, development, and manufacturing of various devices primarily within wound closure and healing.
  • Effectively apply innovative scientific competence to conduct research toward the design of new products, as well as supporting and improving existing product offerings.
  • Play a hands-on role in executing lab-based development activities, analyze and interpret results to guide product and process optimization, document research activities in accordance with design control requirements, and support research activities associated with development of new materials, components, raw materials, and processes for wound closure and healing devices.
  • Provide technical support to supply chain functions to ensure proper implementation and process controls for manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support for marketed medical device products to other business functions such as Regulatory compliance activities and post-launch commercial activities.
  • Interact with surgeons and other health care practitioners as appropriate to uncover insights and unmet needs through meetings, surgical observations, conference attendance, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise, in terms of problem solving for technical and executional problems, using advanced knowledge and experience. Contribute inventions, new designs, new processes, and techniques to solve technical problems based on customer needs.
  • Identify new areas of opportunity for innovation and secure appropriate intellectual property.

Education and Required Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years industrial experience (through internships or full-time positions) as a technical contributor, or at least a Master’s Degree in a similar field with no industrial experience. An advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in process engineering and a demonstrated understanding of correlating material properties to performance.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that embraces change, risk, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive tasks to completion and advancing scientific knowledge.
  • Must be capable of balancing multiple projects/tasks at the same time.
  • Working knowledge of wound closure and healing devices, such as sutures and surgical needles

Preferred Skills & Experiences:

  • Working knowledge of MIS (Minimally-Invasive Surgery) procedures.
  • Experience with a variety of absorbable and non-absorbable polymer systems.
  • Knowledge of polymer processing such as, but not limited to, extrusion, annealing, textile-related processes, and injection molding.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to think strategically are highly desirable.
  • Strong background in statistics and data analysis, in particular DOE (Design Of Experiments) and regression analysis.
  • Prior experience working in the Medical Device industry.
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations.

Other:

  • This position is based in Raritan (NJ) and may require up to 10% (primarily domestic) travel as business needs arise. The ability to travel domestically and internationally is required.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$88, 500] to [$120, 000]

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
