INSURANCE SERVICES OFFICE INC is hiring!

Description:

The Legal, Compliance, Audit, Risk and Sustainability (LCARS) team at Verisk is seeking a highly motivated and seasoned Senior Operations Manager to partner closely with the Head of LCARS Operations to support departmental functions rolling up to Verisk's Chief Legal Officer (CLO). This position requires a blend of hands-on operational leadership, strong project and program management capabilities, and a data-driven approach to performance and process optimization. The ideal candidate will drive complex initiatives-from budgeting and spend management to acquisition transition planning to process improvements and technology implementation-while ensuring seamless execution and collaboration across teams. The role will necessitate balancing detailed execution with big-picture management of operations.

  • Operational & Program Leadership: Serve as a partner to the Head of LCARS Operations by managing day-to-day operations and providing broad oversight of the team's scope of responsibilities, balancing tactical execution with long-term planning.
  • Project & Program Management: Lead and oversee cross-functional initiatives with strong planning, timeline creation, risk identification and mitigation, and stakeholder management to ensure projects progress smoothly and deliver on objectives.
  • Financial & Legal Spend Management: Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, particularly in support of the Risk function. Additionally, support other efforts related to invoicing, purchase orders, and legal spend as well as contribute to optimizing outside counsel and vendor selection and relationships.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions Support: Provide operational support during M& A transactions, managing document storage, transition planning and execution to facilitate smooth integration.
  • Contracting Operations Oversight: Lead initiatives to enhance contracting workflows and vendor management processes, ensuring compliance and continuous performance improvement.
  • Knowledge Management: Develop and maintain knowledge management frameworks to facilitate easy access and sharing of critical information within and across functional teams.
  • Performance Metrics & Dashboards: Facilitate the creation, implementation, and maintenance of operational metrics and dashboards to monitor performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Process Analysis & Optimization: Analyze complex operational processes, identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks, and lead initiatives to streamline workflows, leveraging technology and automation where appropriate.
  • Technology & Artificial Intelligence (AI): Evaluate, recommend, and implement technology solutions, including AI, that drive process innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Mentorship & Talent Development: Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence. Co-lead the co-op and internship program, managing project assignments, conducting regular check-ins, and delivering constructive feedback to support their development.
    • 10+ years of operations experience, ideally within a corporate or in-house legal department. Candidates with a stellar track record in the combined space of project management and lean six sigma may also be considered; however, preference will be given to those with direct experience in legal operations settings.
    • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality, as well as strong judgment and discretion.
    • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
    • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with experience creating timelines / project plans and managing multiple concurrent projects, priorities, and cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Adept at identifying operational challenges and implementing practical, scalable solutions to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
    • Strong financial acumen, with previous experience in budget development, forecasting, accruals, financial analysis, and variance reporting highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to define key performance metrics, implement measurement frameworks, and build dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., in Excel or Power BI) to track departmental performance and outcomes.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to needs of the audience.
    • Proven track record of building collaborative relationships, earning trust, and fostering a positive, team-oriented work culture.
    • Seasoned, knowledgeable and extremely comfortable with tech platforms / systems, as well as artificial intelligence. Tech advocate or tech-forward, and familiar or experienced with: CLM and CRM tools, Smartsheet and Microsoft 365 suite of applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Forms, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI).
    • Experience in process design, mapping, documentation, and implementation, with a strong focus on driving operational improvements and efficiencies.
    • Skilled in change management and organizational adoption, with experience leading rollout strategies for new processes, tools, and technologies-including the development of training materials, user guides, and hands-on support to drive engagement and long-term adoption.
    • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and lead team members, fostering a collaborative environment, supporting professional growth, and guiding staff toward achieving performance goals and project milestones.
