Description:

The Arium models quantify the systemic and emerging liability risks that can lead to significant aggregations and clash risks across portfolios, ranging from climate change to recessions to chemical exposures and across major commercial liability lines, including commercial general liability and professional/management liability lines. Your research into liability catastrophes, emerging risks, and their impact on the insurance industry will directly influence model development and support this fast-growth space in the liability industry. This role is part of Arium's research team and will be based out of the Verisk's Jersey City [EH1] or Boston offices.

ABOUT THE DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
  • Conduct immersive research and analysis related to liability catastrophes, including research into current and evolving regulation, historical litigation/precedents/settlements, insurance industry developments, and economic trends.
  • Research emerging liability catastrophe scenarios ("emerging risks") and develop relevant subject matter expertise. Recommend potential narratives and pathways for the emergence and development of the emerging risk event. Examples of emerging risk events include PFAS contamination, Climate Change risk, Microplastics, and more.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams within Arium and provide research and support for the development of liability parameters, such as event frequencies and legal and regulatory constructs, amongst others. Synthesize diverse research into actionable model recommendations to the analytics and modeling teams. Defend recommendations and support necessary follow-up research.
  • Assist in the response to new liability events as they happen, with relevant research and event description documents
  • Conduct preliminary data analysis to validate research hypotheses and to review data quality/applicability
  • Present research to clients and prospects (including insurers, reinsurers, and brokers), and at (re)insurance industry conferences/webinars
  • Support Arium client services through responses to relevant client inquiries
  • Collaborate closely with other business units and experts across Verisk, including other catastrophe modeling and research teams in Extreme Event Solutions and actuarial, coverage, and emerging issues research departments within Verisk Underwriting Solutions

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Humanities, Social Sciences, or other research-related disciplines
  • 1- 2 years of research experience preferred
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior experience in Property & Casualty Insurance/Reinsurance is a plus
  • Experience with data analysis and data processing is a plus, preferably using R/Python
  • Familiarity with basic statistical concepts is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including presentation skills
