Job Description Summary: The BESS Engineering Intern is responsible for overall design of BESS projects/operation resulting in successful project execution.
Summer 2025 Internship. This position will be in office full time in Raleigh, NC.

Position Responsibilities and Duties: - Review electrical BESS, including layout, equipment selection, fire alarm design, network infrastructure and equipment specifications in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including protection engineering, control systems specialists, PV engineering, and HV engineering to ensure the seamless integration of BESS into the overall power grid.
- Assist with development of engineering guidance documents with supervision.
- Assist with Material Specifications with supervision
- Assist with detailed BOM with supervision.
- Assist with Vendor selection at Procurement (Verifying Specs are met and make recommendations)
- Assist with Vendor Approval Drawings
- Assist with Functional Testing Witness
- Support energization and initial synchronization on site if applicable
- Participate in team meetings/calls on a regular basis, and take meeting minutes.
- Assist in the development of standards, procedures, and guidelines for BESS engineering activities.
- Demonstrate and maintain a safe work environment and direct safe work practices in energized substations.
- Maintain flexibility in availability due to 24/7 operations.
- Regular travel (local and inter-state) required.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
- Work with subject matter experts to develop skills to be able to perform the above functions independently.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Enrolled in college and working towards a bachelor's degree in a technical field
- Ability to work, analyze, troubleshoot and prioritize problems independently
- Strong knowledge of dispatching methods, techniques, and practices
- Effective written and verbal English communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and coordinate
- Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or modified as required by the organization
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: - Requires frequent stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting 20 or more lbs
- Constant finger dexterity and ability to see details at close range and at a distance, hear, talk, and possess depth perception.
- Occasional climbing and carrying, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high exposed places
- Occasional exposure to dust and fumes, electric shock, radiation, toxic/caustic chemicals
