Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY
Perform quality control tests on all intermediate and finished products to assure each batch is within established quality parameters. Adjust each batch as necessary and approve it as meeting the established standard before packaging, storing, and/or shipping. Maintain QC adjustment records. Prepare various reports for customers as required on a batch-to-batch basis.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Check production batches to assure established quality standards.
  • Follow established QC procedures as listed on the QC card.
  • Advise batchmaker of any adjustments required to bring batch into conformance with standard.
  • Recheck batch after adjustment(s) until product is within established specifications.
  • Record adjustments and results on back of QC card.
  • Develop “Batch Problem Report” when batch will not conform to standard.
  • Check incoming raw materials as required by QC manual.
  • Maintain self-education of quality control procedures and techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned by QC Manager or Plant Manager.

Experience and Education
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in coatings environment preferred.
  • Prior batchmaking experience recommended




Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Proficient math skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Successfully complete inter-society color council color aptitude test.
  • Familiarity with standard QC procedures and analytical tools used in the paint industry.
  • Knowledge of machinery and manufacturing processes.
  • Decision making and problem solving skills; well organized

Reasoning Ability
  • Think logically and demonstrate sound judgement
  • Work with limited supervision following written and verbal instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

Be able to function in a manufacturing/laboratory setting with most work done in the QC lab performing quality control checks. Occasional material handling involving drum and/or pail trucks and some lifting up to 50 pounds. Standing for extended periods of time is required with some sitting, walking, reaching, handling, bending, and stooping. Some office work involving computers and reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Quality Control Lab is off the Main Plant production area (hazardous area) and is a general laboratory setting (also connected to the R& D Lab). The lab is heated and air-conditioned. Machine noise can be heard in the lab. The company provides any required personal protective equipment.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI)
  • Complaints (or lack of) from customers and sales department.
  • Completion of production batches in a timely manner.
  • QC efficiency as gauged by customer return of product.
  • Attendance and attitude.
