Position Overview

We are hiring on behalf of one of our clients, a global leader in commercial building automation, software, and facility management technologies.

We are seeking a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Lead Technician to oversee system commissioning across commercial properties, including office complexes, educational institutions, airports, and healthcare facilities. Working alongside in-house engineering teams and electrical subcontractors, you will ensure the seamless integration, startup, and fine-tuning of HVAC, fire, and security control systems to meet project specifications.

This position involves travel up to 75% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Mentorship: Train and guide junior installation technicians and technical specialists on system installation, safety protocols, and contractor coordination.

  • Commissioning Efficiency: Execute system checkouts, software loading, and system commissioning. Continuously refine commissioning workflows to reduce labor hours per device using lean operational standards.

  • System Integration: Perform open-systems and third-party integrations across multiple open-protocol standards, including BACnet, Modbus, OPC, and LON.

  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Identify and resolve hardware and software issues, performing system adjustments, re-engineering, or redesigns as necessary to ensure spec performance.

  • Configuration Management: Maintain strict configuration control policies, ensuring ongoing backups of system changes and archiving final files to centralized enterprise servers. Support change-order management to protect project scope.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate with general contractors, mechanical/electrical trades, engineering teams, and facility operators to align scope, hardware, graphics, and as-built documentation.

  • Technical Support & Risk Management: Assist project managers and sales engineers with site surveys, application selection, and retrofit solutions. Conduct hazard and risk assessments for all site tasks in compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience with HVAC control systems, mechanical systems operation, and commercial building management.

  • 3 or more years of experience with building systems, control programming, and general computer networking.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience with integrated fire and security building automation platforms.

  • Tridium Niagara N4 certification and practical field experience.

  • Active HVAC license or an advanced technical degree in engineering, electronics, or automation.

  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex mechanical and electrical schematics.

  • Expert knowledge of open-protocol integration (BACnet, Modbus, OPC, LON) and network architecture.
