Job Description Role: Assistant Project Manager (APM) Classification: Exempt, Salaried Reports to: Project Manager Summary: An Assistant Project Manager (APM) obtains, evaluates, coordinates, and distributes the information and authorizations necessary to construct projects on time, within budget, and to the quality specified. The APM is responsible for protecting and promoting the interest of both the business and client in all matters, as well as demonstrating the personal characteristics of a beginner-level leader. Roles & Responsibilities: Maintain adherence to standards of safety Ensure that required documentation is filed Assist in creating and managing project budget for all assigned projects Develop pre-construction RFP package Assist in conducting project meetings, setting milestones, and formulating monthly owner report Establish job processes (RFIs, submittals, and pay applications), including approving pay applications and negotiating subcontract change orders Update project schedule; ensure project quality control and establish overall project logistics Assist in managing the closeout process Collaborate with the project superintendent and site operations team throughout the life of the project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Project milestones and monthly owner reporting consistently on schedule Budget management and subcontract/PCO negotiation handled accurately Project quality standards and closeout timelines consistently met Strong collaboration maintained with the superintendent and site team Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies: Valid Driver's License Safety certifications as required High school diploma required; four-year degree from an accredited university within construction, engineering, or business concentrations strongly preferred 2-5 years' experience in commercial construction, including experience with a commercial general contractor Previous experience on commercial job sites strongly preferred Passion for construction and the industry; ability to recognize and seek quality Ability to master sector/project-specific software systems, including the Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam Strong ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, with a focus on audience-appropriate business writing and verbal skills Positive attitude and passion for construction and the industry Ability to gather data, interpret it into meaningful information, and relay it through clear, concise communication, seeing how pieces and processes fit into the bigger picture Ability to organize and manage tasks and priorities Seeks continuous improvement of knowledge and abilities, with an internal focus on self-improvement Adapts and exercises flexibility with the ever-changing world of technology, design, means, and methods Ability to collaborate with people of various backgrounds and styles Creates and maintains relationships with colleagues, clients, subcontractors, and vendors Exhibits respectfulness by being punctual, engaged/focused, and respectful of others Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Competencies: 30-Hour OSHA Business or Accounting degree preferred Three to five years of construction accounting experience Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Familiarity with ERP systems Work format: This position is best suited to a traditional, on-site work schedule. Travel requirements: Occasional travel to meetings or events within 150-mile radius of office Occasional travel to various job site locations as needed for photography or milestone events Physical requirements: Ability to access and navigate all areas of the construction site Ability to lift up to 90 lbs. at times Valid Driver's License This job description covers the principal duties/responsibilities of the role.
