Job Summary

Functions in a backend Azure API developer role responsible for designing, building, and managing API solutions in a fast-paced cloud development environment. Develops secure, scalable, and high-performance APIs supporting internal systems, partner integrations, and customer-facing services. Builds and maintains APIs using Azure Cloud Services and backend technologies including #, Java, .NET, and JSON-based services. Collaborates with architects, developers, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure APIs are discoverable, governed, monitored, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. Supports multiple system integrations and resolves interface and performance issues. Works within Agile project teams to translate business needs into reliable, data-driven API services.

Education & Experience

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years developing backend APIs using #, Java, .NET technologies, and JSON-based services.
• 3+ years designing, developing, and publishing APIs in Azure Cloud Services environments.
• Experience supporting production APIs and resolving integration issues.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API principles and backend integration patterns.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Healthcare industry experience.

Preferred:

• 3+ years of experience with Azure API Management (APIM).
• Experience working with SQL databases and writing complex SQL queries.
• Experience with REST APIs and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
• Experience implementing API security mechanisms including OAuth2, JWT, and client certificates.
• Experience integrating Azure Functions, App Services, or on-premises systems through APIM.
• Experience using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics for monitoring and diagnostics.
• Experience improving scalability, security, and maintainability of API solutions.
• Experience refactoring services for reuse and performance improvements.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and using Jira.
• Azure certifications preferred (Azure Developer Associate, Solutions Architect, or related credentials).
• Experience integrating third-party and legacy systems.
• Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architectures using Azure services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and publish APIs into Azure Cloud environments.
• Build backend services using #, Java, .NET, and JSON for application integrations.
• Create and manage API policies in APIM for throttling, caching, transformation, authentication, authorization, and logging.
• Expose services through APIM using Azure Functions, App Services, and on-premise systems.
• Maintain API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger standards.
• Implement API lifecycle management including versioning and validation.
• Configure authentication using OAuth2, Azure AD, subscription keys, or other security mechanisms.
• Collaborate with DevOps and QA teams to support CI/CD automation and testing pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architectural discussions.
• Monitor API usage, performance, and error metrics using Azure monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot integration and performance issues across multiple systems.
• Ensure APIs meet enterprise governance, security, and compliance requirements.
• Support system upgrades, vendor integrations, and platform enhancements.
• Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and user support when required.
• Participate in change control and production deployments.
• Participate in on-call support rotations as needed.

Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of API development methodologies and software lifecycle practices. Expertise with Azure API Management and Azure backend services. Strong proficiency in RESTful API design, #, Java, .NET backend development, JSON and service integrations, and SQL and database interaction. Experience implementing APIM policies using XML-based policy expressions. Experience with Azure Functions, App Services, Logic Apps, and related services. Solid understanding of API security and authentication standards. Experience using OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and source control systems. Knowledge of CI/CD automation tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced delivery environments.

Working Conditions:

• Works in a remote office environment, with weekend or nighttime work to implement changes.
• Extensive computer work with prolonged sitting.
• Occasional evening or weekend work required for deployments or upgrades.
• Participation in rotating on-call support schedules required.
• Regular and reliable attendance required.
• Requires Department of Defense security clearance.
