The Doe Run Company is seeking a Slag Handling Operator to collect, sample and haul blast furnace slag in order to treat and convert to a non-hazardous material. This night shift position is located at The Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience working according to lab sampling procedures.
  • Experience in chemical identification and slag containment.
  • Mobile equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of TCLP procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the environmental impact of work processes.
  • Ability to visually observe changes, such as changes in water color.
  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks, including tightening, lubricating, cleaning, and hooking and unhooking pipes.
  • Follow sample collection procedures for lab processing.
  • Ability to follow slag system and slag treatment procedures and processes

Responsibilities:

  • Operate cyclone to filter out the fines in the slag and clean up in the area.
  • Operate Toyo pumps to move slag material.
  • Follow sample collection procedures for lab processing.
  • Move slag using mobile equipment such as a loader.
  • Manage roll-off containers, includes tarps and bows; move material with a haul truck or hook truck.
  • Maintain pH level and add chemicals in order to properly treat slag.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment, Physical & Lifting:

  • Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, respirator, hearing protection, and eyewear and work near moving, mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to loud noise, wet, humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions; Occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • Frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, driving, reaching with hands/arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing or balancing, and repetitive movement. Requires clarity of vision at 20 feet or 20 inches, three-dimensional vision, the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
