Position Description

Position Summary
The Operations Supervisor/Superintendent is responsible for safe, compliant, and reliable operations at the Kinder Morgan South St. Louis Transmix Terminal. This facility includes bulk tankage, a transmix distillation processing unit, processing heater, truck rack operations for gasoline distribution, premium offload, and diesel barge loading on the Mississippi River under USCG regulation.
This role leads all terminal operations personnel and oversees safety, regulatory compliance, production planning, inventory control, maintenance coordination, budgeting, and overall facility performance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience, excellent operational discipline, strong communication skills and a deep understanding of hydrocarbon processing and terminal operations.

Position Requirements

Primary Responsibilities
Terminal Operations & Production Management
  • Direct daily operations of the transmix distillation unit to produce on-spec gasoline and LM-500 diesel.
  • Optimize gasoline blending operation
  • Communicate with KM commercial, KM scheduling, KM accounting groups as well as third-party counterparts.
  • Oversee truck rack activities and ensure safe, timely, and accurate loading of gasoline.
  • Manage diesel barge loading operations in coordination with marine scheduling and USCG requirements.
  • Lead response to operational issues, equipment failures, and process upsets to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain operating procedures, ensure DCS/console operations are followed, and verify compliance with Kinder Morgan standards.
Safety, Regulatory, and Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with Kinder Morgan policies, USCG regulatory requirements, and all federal/state/local regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with safety programs including Process Safety, Mechanical Integrity, environmental permitting, SPCC, and USCG marine regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and lead incident investigations, safety audits, and corrective actions.
Inventory, Quality, and Product Accountability
  • Oversee daily inventory management for transmix, finished gasoline, and LM-500 diesel.
  • Ensure accurate gauging, sampling, reconciliation, and loss/gain reporting in alignment with Kinder Morgan procedures.
  • Verify that all products meet quality specifications and that proper documentation is maintained.
  • Coordinate with commercial and scheduling teams to support product movements and inventory planning.
Personnel Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop operations personnel including operators, lead operators, and shift staff.
  • Manage staffing levels, operator training, certification, performance evaluations, and advancement.
  • Enforce operating discipline, SOP compliance, and emergency response readiness.
Maintenance, Reliability, and Housekeeping
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to plan, prioritize, and schedule preventive and corrective work.
  • Ensure reliability of pumps, heaters, distillation columns, instrumentation, valves, and tankage systems.
  • Oversee housekeeping standards for the terminal, ensuring a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Support project planning, equipment upgrades, and small capital improvements.
Budget & Cost Management
  • Develop and manage the terminals operating budget in coordination with the Products Division.
  • Control costs related to labor, maintenance, contractors, chemicals, and utilities.
  • Drive cost-effective solutions while maintaining safety, compliance, and reliability.
Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of leadership and management experience in terminal operations, pipeline, or petroleum processing operations.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and be issued a TWIC card.
  • Experience with truck racks, barge loading, or marine fuel operations.
  • Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and compliance regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in operations or shift supervision.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred
  • Strong understanding of distillation, transmix processing, or similar facilities.
  • Blending experience
  • Familiarity with DCS control systems, SCADA, Delta V terminal automation, or pipeline scheduling systems.
  • Experience managing budgets and operational KPIs.
Work Environment
  • Industrial terminal setting with exposure to operating equipment, tank farms, distillation units, marine docks, and truck loading racks.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, climb tanks, and respond to after-hours operational needs as required.
  • The facility is operational 24/7/365 and requires trained staffing at all times.
