Summary
Supports the Safety Director in the development, integration, and oversight of the corporate safety and health program at the worksite and/or a group of worksites/operating company. Drives consistency, accountability at assigned locations and within the larger Safety Team. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws and practices. Exposure to projects of varying scopes.

Operational Support
o Partners with project directors and executives on the integration of the Company’s safety, health, and environmental requirements and expectations into the general business practices at a worksite, or a group of worksites.
o Integrates the Company’s safety, health, and environmental requirements and expectations into the general business practices at a worksite, or a group of worksites.
o Participates in project planning events including estimating, teaming, etc.
• Program Design and Development
o Develops and maintains project specific safety programs such as safety orientation, incident reporting and management, inspection and auditing, safety observations, supervisor safety training, permit to work, LOTO, and subcontractor onboarding.
o Prepares or oversees the preparation of safety plans, risk assessments, training programs, and other programmatic elements. Reviews and approves safety plans, work permits, authorizations and designations.
o Builds an effective safety observation and near miss reporting program at the worksite.
o Assists in the development of site-specific safety goals and targets. Tracks and monitors progress on safety goals and targets, reports to project management.
• Workforce Development
o May supervise project-level safety managers and other safety staff by defining goals and duties of site level safety staff, conducting performance management duties, providing mentoring, sponsorship, and development plans.
o Meets and establishes relationships with subcontractors. Reviews subcontractor safety programs and procedures to verify compliance with programs as well as those of our clients.
o Develops safety competencies in supervisors and advises site management of areas where good practices are in place and identifies areas for improvement.
o Verifies training and qualification of workers designated as competent persons, supervisors, qualified persons, operators, and other safety-related roles.
o Establishes relationships with local medical providers, emergency services and other community services in support of safety at the worksite.
• Risk Management
o Facilitates incident reporting and notification, investigation and medical response actions to assure timely and appropriate care for (potential) workplace injuries and illnesses.

Management Responsibilities
• Effectively trains, coaches and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the department.
• Understands and utilizes available pathways to effectively escalate and resolve safety issues and other conflicts that may arise.
• Recommends appropriate disciplinary actions to supervisors in accordance with the Company’s Disciplinary Action Program.
• Achieves desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence.
• Determines methods and courses of action to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
• Interfaces with regulatory representative (OSHA, Environmental, Public Health) in a cooperative manner. Applies knowledge of regulatory processes to limit exposure and risk to the company.
• Reports monthly to project team on key performance indicators for safety.
• Initiates effective incentive programs that encourage positive contributions to safety culture.

• Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization. Always wears a hard helmet and other appropriate personal protective equipment in the field.
• Exercises good people skills both within the organization and with subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Understands and maintains discretion on sensitive aspects of safety.
• Monitors the profession for new best practices.
• Forecasts safety training needs, staffing, and budgets.
• Overseas emergency action planning for the worksite(s)/operating company.
• Remains current on trends, practices, and legal issues.
• Establishes relationships with clients' safety staff.
• Ensures the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the worksite(s)/operating company.
• Travel to Company and subsidiary offices; offsite client, subcontractor, and supplier meetings; and other locations across North America to fulfill the essential duties of the role as required.
• Regular and reliable attendance in person as required by your Supervisor, Company guidelines, and/or project and office obligations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Use of various safety systems common in the industry (Procore or similar)
• Reads, analyzes and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
• Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
• Effectively presents information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
• Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions.
• Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with abstract and concrete variables.
• Organizes and manages time, duties, and activities efficiently.
• Maintains visibility and with field teams and project teams.
• Embraces collaboration and information tools and technologies.
• Utilizes Microsoft Office-based applications and project management software systems appropriate for this role.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in health & safety, Engineering, Construction Management or related field
• 10 years’ Health & Safety experience
• Equivalent combination or education and experience.
• Experience with Cause Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Incident Investigation.
• Working Knowledge of risk management practices, workers compensation programs.
• Experience with OSHA Compliance, conformance standards and other industry best practices.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
• Required
o First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications
o OSHA Authorized Trainer and Safety Certification (510/500)
o CHST Required
• Preferred
o Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional, (GSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), and Safety Trained Supervisor (STS-C) will be considered.
o National Fire Protection Association - Certified Electrical Safety Professional (CESP)
o National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification(s)
o 40 Hours EM-385 United States Army Corp of Engineers
o 30 Hour OSHA Construction
o Competent Person (Lock Out Tag Out, Excavation Trenching, Fall Protection, Rigging)
