Description:

Position Purpose:

To support the successful planning, design, and execution of Sand Companies, Inc. Construction and Development projects by producing high-quality schematic, design development, and construction documents. This role is critical to accelerating project starts, improving coordination across stakeholders, and enhancing the overall efficiency of our development pipeline.

Key Stakeholders (Constituents):

Owners & Limited Partners • SCI Corporate Office & Associates • Architects & Engineers • Vendors & Subcontractors • City, County & State Officials • Building Inspectors & Inspecting Firms • Local Communities & Government Agencies

Indicators of Success:

  • Accurate, timely completion of drawings aligned with Sand Companies’ design standards
  • Efficient integration of REVIT into design and construction workflows
  • Smooth coordination with consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
  • On-time project starts and successful completion of development milestones

Core Responsibilities:

Design & Drafting (≈50%)

  • Draft schematic, design development, and construction documents under the direction of the Senior Architect or Architect
  • Translate design concepts into accurate, code-compliant drawings

REVIT Integration & Process Improvement (≈20%)

  • Fully integrate REVIT into design and construction documentation
  • Develop workflows and processes that allow construction teams to leverage REVIT models effectively

Construction & Bid Phase Support (≈10%)

  • Prepare sketches and resolve detailing issues during bidding and construction
  • Support field teams with drawing clarifications and revisions

Consultant & Subcontractor Coordination (≈7%)

  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and design/build subcontractors
  • Issue updated backgrounds, review submittals, and incorporate approved changes

Code Compliance & Calculations (≈5%)

  • Perform area, distance, volume, occupancy, exit, and other code-related calculations
  • Assist with specifications and bid documentation

Document Management (≈5%)

  • Develop, maintain, and organize electronic CAD/Revit files in coordination with the Senior Architect

Drawing Production & Distribution (≈3%)

  • Manage drawing sets and distribution to construction teams, subcontractors, owners, and code officials
  • Promote and support a safe, healthy work environment

Key Skills & Competencies:

Communication:

  • Strong written and verbal communication with a practical, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to resolve issues professionally and efficiently

Technical Proficiency:

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and project management tools

Organization & Time Management:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work independently

Decision-Making & Planning:

  • Sound judgment in construction-related decisions
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and proactively develop solutions

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Two-year degree in Architectural Construction Technology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of CAD drafting experience in architectural or construction environments

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong understanding of architectural and construction practices
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, including:
    • Building & Fire Codes
    • ADA & MN Accessibility
    • Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Energy Codes
    • Local zoning and municipal regulations

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within established budgets
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to support team members and contribute beyond assigned duties
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, humidity) as required by project needs

Total Rewards:
This full-time, Non- exempt position offers a estimated pay range of $30-32 an hour annually based on job-related experience, skills, and qualifications.
