Expert EH& S Management

Seeking a hands-on solution provider to develop and direct company-wide policy to protect the health and safety of Land O'Lakes Dairy Foods employees. Establishes and implements systems and processes that ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA) and reduce the potential for life-altering injuries and other employee risk at multiple facilities Drives efforts to improve facility safety culture. Creates and approves location annual plans, initiatives, and action plans to address nonconformance and compliance issues. Drives and monitors facility performance via key performance indicators, identified measures, and objectives. Drives EHS contact development and leadership training in safety activities. Assists and directs the work of location professional safety staff and works directly with Engineering/Operations/Corp EHS/HR and others on leading safety/risk reduction initiatives. Challenges the status quo and brings ideas to the broader EHS organization. Ability to work with cross functional groups and create effective business partnerships with senior leadership, location managers, supervisors, and hourly operations personnel.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Reduction: Includes Federal (OSHA), state and local regulations. Ensures safety programs are in compliance and helps plants implement critical safety programs to prevent Serious Injuries and Fatalities. Assists plants with regulatory compliance and Land O' Lakes' comprehensive EHS Standards management system. Develops, aligns, and implements proactive programs that reduce LOL's risk profile. Proactively manages safety and mitigates risk through design and effective implementation of EHS standards. Works closely with Corporate EHS on implementing key H & S programs, environmental compliance and corporate initiatives.

Assist/Coach facility EHS Managers and employees on Health & Safety (H & S) programs, provide direction on EHS Manager development, including organizing and directing professional EHS Managers, communicating, developing and implementing plant H& S plans. Develop EHS leadership, awareness, and risk recognition skills at all levels in the organization. Assists, develops, and tracks new Plant Manager and EHS Manager training and individual development plans. Champions Safety as a core value with Dairy Foods managers/supervisors to drive positive culture change. Assists in managing Dairy Foods Safety capital program.

Participates in incident investigation to ensure that the root cause and management system failures are defined so adequate corrective actions can be implemented to eliminate recurrence. Apply learnings across the division or company as applicable.

Assist facilities with Environmental, PSM, DOT, and Sustainability initiatives as needed.

Coordinates and conducts safety audits, risk assessments and defines control measures to reduce risks. Enhances employee engagement through inclusive safety committees, effective behavioral safety observations and risk identification.

Required Experience/Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety Engineering or equivalent
  • 5-10 years of experience managing large plant safety program, familiarity with dairy processing equipment
  • Strong technical background working on OSHA/Safety/Industrial Hygiene/property protection and worker compensation programs and a history of producing results with progressive responsibility managing programs and people
  • 25-50% of travel required


Preferred Experience/Knowledge:
  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) professional certifications
  • Working with multi sites


Salary: $120, 880 - $181, 320

In most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of our salary ranges
