Brand Design Lead

The Brand Design Lead role is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned creative professional to make a significant impact on the brands within Land O'Lakes. This role is aimed at elevating our brand(s) image ensuring that our visual identity both resonates with our audiences, as well as upholds the integrity of our brand equities. This individual will be at the forefront of leading and evolving the development and execution of innovative brand and packaging concepts ensuring that our brands stand out and remain relevant in ever-evolving markets.

With a strong background in brand and package design, coupled with a visionary approach to creativity, the ideal candidate will lead our talented team to new heights. The primary goal of the Brand Design Lead is to infuse our organization with a fresh and dynamic creative vision across our packaging portfolio that aligns with consumer needs.

This person will be leading brand packaging design work for both retail and B2B goods and services, including the Land O'Lakes Dairy Foods brand, Purina Animal Nutrition, Croplan, and Mazuri Exotic Pet Nutrition, among other specialty brands within the Land O'Lakes enterprise. A collective portfolio totaling over $16 Billion in annual sales across a diverse network of channels and retailers.

In addition to packaging design, this role will be responsible for oversight, enhancements, and maintenance to our brand guidelines across this brand portfolio.

Required Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree required in marketing, strategic communications, graphic design, portfolio school or similar schooling related to brand design.
  • 10+ years of brand design (packaging or brand identity) experience leading both internal and external design agencies within retail categories.
  • Detailed understanding of the end-to-end packaging processes including printing process and mechanics, retail/on-shelf best-practices, package engineering nuances, and role of packaging in the broader brand footprint.
  • Proficiency and working knowledge of various creative or packaging software and systems (Adobe suite, various proofing software's, DAM or PIM connectivity, etc.).
  • Experience with brand guidelines implementation (setting, following, or managing).

  • Thought leadership in the rapidly changing retail environment and eagerness to build organizational capabilities and share best practices and learnings cross-functionallyto expand out brand design acumen
  • Proactive communicator with internal & external contacts with exceptional written and verbal skills
  • Excellent analytical and proactive problem-solving skills; appreciation for business dynamics and mechanics that impact brand decisions
  • Able to effectively and confidently present creative concepts to varying levels in a highly matrixed organization - from individual contributors to C-Suite executives
  • Have a proven track record in building good relationships with agency partners, print partners, internal associates, and other cross-functional partners to improve brand integration
  • Strong Creative Acumen: Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop innovative design solutions that align with defined brand strategies
  • Background in Brand and/or Package Design: Proven experience in leading teams to create compelling brand identities and packaging designs systems
  • Collaborating with legal teams to ensure brand integrity and IP is maintained.
  • Project Management Skills: The Brand Design Lead should have a solid understanding of project workflows to effectively guide the team.
  • People Leadership / Mobilizing Talent with an emphasis on supporting prioritization and focus


The salary range for this role is $105, 040 - $157, 560
