The Dockhand is responsible for assisting the marina team in order to serve marina customers and guests by performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to general operation of the docks and assisting boaters. The Dockhand must work to maintain a safe and clean environment throughout the harbor and marina facilities.
*Seasonal position through October 31st
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide SHM members with the best experience possible
- Greet all customers in a manner that expresses a kind, courteous and professional character
- Fuel dock attendants assist boaters in docking and securing boats coming in to refuel. Assists in the pumping out of blackwater waste tanks at the dock. Acts as a shopkeeper, maintaining the ship's store and processing transactions.
- Maintain and clean fuel dock, ships store, restrooms, docks, walkways, grounds and other areas designated by management
- Ensure docks and equipment are operational at all times
- Continually observe, monitor and operate the pump out station within established policies regarding sanitation and accident prevention.
- Provide customer service and assistance for fuel dock and dock store purchases, including handling cash, credit and internal account processing.
- Responsible for re-stocking and maintenance of dock store inventory, including consumables. Keep displays neat and organized.
- Perform regular general clean-up/maintenance of fuel dock: fuel hoses properly stored and ready for use, dock clear of debris and unnecessary items and equipment, trash emptied regularly, and trash disposed of in accordance to environmental and OSHA regulations.
- Perform regular general clean-up/maintenance of dock store: sweep/mop floors as necessary, empty trash regularly, keep counter tops, window areas and display areas wiped clean and clear of debris, ensure presentable and customer-friendly store atmosphere, etc.
- Check in / out of transient boaters- process transient transactions. Communicate with dock master any transient needs.
- Police grounds and parking lot to keep free from debris.
- Comply with OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and adhere to all site rules and expectations
- Availability to work overtime when required
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Ability to work safely around the water
- Must be able to swim
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Experience with cash handling and POS systems
- Basic boat handling skills preferred
- Previous marina experience preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred
- Any skills considered standard that a Fuel Dock Attendant should possess
