Position Summary The Purchasing Manager will oversee all aspects of sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management of a filtration distribution company. They are responsible for driving cost-saving initiatives, maintaining optimal inventory levels to support sales demand, and building strategic supplier partnerships to ensure high quality and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Supplier Relationship Management: Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, payment terms, and volume rebates.
- Inventory & Demand Planning: Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to forecast demand, set inventory levels, and prevent stockouts or overstocking, utilizing Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or ERP systems.
- Procurement Strategy: Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies in line with company objectives to reduce expenses and improve buying effectiveness.
- Order Management & Logistics: Oversee daily purchasing activities, including purchase order generation, tracking performance, and expediting orders to ensure timely delivery to the distribution warehouse.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all procured items meet quality standards and specifications, resolving issues with non-conforming goods and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
- Cost Management: Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and market trends to ensure competitive pricing; implement cost-cutting initiatives and manage the procurement budget.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, hire, and train a team of buyers and purchasing agents (+/- 10 individuals)
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, or inventory control, preferably in a wholesale or distribution environment - this is NOT for manufacturing.
- Prior managerial experience required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree (required) in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
- Systems Knowledge: Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Sage, Oracle) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate high-value contracts and secure better terms.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large sets of data to forecast trends, measure inventory performance (e.g., inventory turns) and calculate total cost of ownership.
- Certifications: Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar credentials are a plus.

- Inventory Turns: Increasing the speed at which stock is sold and replaced.
- Fill Rate: Maintaining high percentage of orders filled on time.
- Cost Savings: Achieving annual reduction in purchasing costs per company objectives.
- Supplier Performance: Monitoring supplier reliability in quality, delivery, and cost.
