Job Description
District Health Department 10 is hiring a WIC Clinic Assistant in Big Rapids, MI. This is a full-time position.
Under general supervision, performs office and clerical support duties for WIC staff and clients. Obtains blood specimens from finger sticks and conducts laboratory tests for hemoglobin and lead; and performs various measurements to monitor growth and development of WIC women, infants and children. Greets and checks clients in for WIC services. Notifies appropriate staff of appointment arrivals and directs clients accordingly.Completes intake process including verifying and entering family and/or client demographics, income/financial, billing and laboratory results in WIC database and electronic health record (EHR) as required for program eligibility and determination. Maintains efficient clinic flow by serving as the liaison between clients and staff.Answers and addresses WIC phone calls. Responds to routine inquiries and refers callers to other staff as appropriate.Schedules WIC appointments. Issues WIC EBT (electronic benefits transfer) in accordance with appointments.Prepares for WIC clinics by printing schedules and immunization records and verifying Medicaid and commercial insurances.Reviews state and local reports to initiate recall and outreach to existing and potential WIC clients to increase enrollment and participation.Performs laboratory tests including finger-sticks for hemoglobin and lead, and measurements of height, weight and head circumference. Ensures accuracy of tests, measurements, and data entry of results.Promotes, protects, and supports breastfeeding initiation and duration among clients and the community. Displays positive attitude related to breastfeeding to clients and general public.Orders clinic supplies as needed.Performs general clerical duties such as making photocopies, typing, faxing, scanning, completing forms, preparing charts, and so forth.Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in response to emergencies, workloads or staffing shortages. Works flexible hours as needed.Makes appropriate referrals to community resources.May perform and document quality control tests on laboratory equipment.Maintains up-to-date vaccines including flu (influenza, ) in accordance with CDC guidelines: Recommended Vaccines for Healthcare Workers.
