About the Role Join our team! The City of Kentwood is seeking a Fleet Services Technician to support our Public Works Department. In this role, youll perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul work on the Citys fleet of vehicles and equipment, helping keep essential City services operating safely and efficiently. Youll work on a wide variety of equipment, including police and fire vehicles, automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, and small engines. This position is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, working with a variety of equipment, and solving problems in a hands-on environment. What You'll Do Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy-, medium-, and light-duty vehicles and equipmentTroubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic systemsPerform complex repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, and drive axlesDiagnose and repair original equipment and aftermarket electrical and electronic systemsInstall and modify electrical, lighting, computer, and radio systems in vehicles and equipmentFabricate and weld parts and equipmentOperate heavy equipment and drive a variety of vehicles and trucksMaintain shop tools and equipmentRead and interpret repair manuals, drawings, specifications, and technical informationRoad-test vehicles and equipment following repairsParticipate in snow removal operationsMaintain accurate maintenance records using automated fleet administration systemsPrepare written and oral reports of work performedFollow safe work practices and properly use required safety equipment and PPEAssist other Public Works divisions as needed Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GEDFormal coursework in vehicle maintenanceTwo years of journey-level experience maintaining and repairing vehicles and/or heavy construction equipment, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceAbility to obtain a Michigan CDL Class A with Tanker (N) endorsement within six months of hireAbility to obtain ASE certifications in automotive, light and heavy truck repair or Michigan Motor Vehicle Mechanic certification for automotive and heavy-duty trucks, including brakes and suspension, within six months of hireKnowledge of gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles and equipmentStrong diagnostic and mechanical repair skillsAbility to safely operate and maintain hand, power, and shop tools and equipmentAbility to read and interpret manuals, specifications, and drawingsAbility to work independently and as part of a team Please view the full job description and requirements for more details.
