Description:

Engineering Temp - Student Intern (Full-time 30-40 hours per week)

Starting Rate: $18.68

This is a Seasonal position and can work for no more than 6 months

Nature of Work:

This position is within the City of Ann Arbors Engineering Department which oversees the design, construction, and close-out of planned public improvements within the city. The improvement projects will be related to the installation of water main, storm, sanitary, sidewalks, roads, and pavement markings.

Intern(s) will be assigned to a project team related to one of the following projects: Utility Improvement Project, Sidewalk & Pavement Marking Maintenance Program, or Road Resurfacing Program.

Anticipated tasks for this season include assisting with public communication, project coordination, plan review, submittal review, design and construction meeting agenda preparation and minutes, permit applications, MDOT project preparation, construction progress payments, invoice approval, work order processing, field data collection, field review of sidewalks, ramps and pavement markings, and the creation and distribution of construction notices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or post graduate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Technology, Surveying or related field
  • Positions assigned primarily to the field will be required to have a valid drive
  • Valid driver’s license, as they are required to drive to the numerous local job sites daily
  • Ability to work in a team and take instruction
  • Ability and willingness to perform construction inspection in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to effectively document and communicate technical information to both a technical and non-technical audience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products as well as general computer skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
