Description:

JOB PURPOSE:
To complete the company's core supervisory training program in the company's Retail division. This position will be required to work at multiple locations in the assigned region to apply this training to a variety of retail locations as well as to provide additional support to Area and Store Managers.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED is required. Progress toward or completion of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• A minimum of one year of retail experience, preferably in a convenience store setting, is necessary.
• Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills are necessary.
• Basic math skills are necessary to calculate change, volume sales, and tax percentages and balance cash registers.
• Must be able to read and apply company procedure documents.
• Good interpersonal skills are necessary to greet customers and provide information in an accurate and courteous manner, and to provide coaching and work directions to Associates.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks accurately and courteously. Must be able to monitor activity both within the store and at gas pumps.
• Must be able to complete company-sponsored training and required updates within specified training periods.
• Computer literacy is required. The ability to use company software for operations, Human Resource applications as well as the office applications within a reasonable training period is necessary.
• Must be able to work any shift, multiple locations and/or any day to coordinate schedules with the Area Manager. This may require overnight stays up to a week at a time based upon business needs. Must maintain an open line of communication to take calls from management and store locations
• Once the training program has been successfully completed and there is a Store Manager opening within a 25-mile radius of the incumbent's home address, if the position is offered it is expected that the position will be accepted.
• Must have reliable personal transportation along with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance per state law to complete training at assigned store locations, to fill in for store managers or assistant managers, and participate in other off-site business activities as required.
• Physical Requirements: Requires ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally throughout a normal shift, moving and stacking merchandise, cleaning, sweeping, shoveling snow, and being able to stoop, bend, and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to work inside coolers to maintain inventory. The ability to ascend and descend a five-foot ladder safely is necessary. The incumbent must be able to read alpha and numeric data on cash registers and procedure documents.

MAJOR DUTIES:
• Training: Complete core management development coursework and corporate training requirements and demonstrate mastery of course material at the end of the training period.
• Operating Reports: Prepare and/or review operating reports for assigned stores during training rotations. Identify variances, inventory issues and opportunities for improvement. Work with Store Manager to develop and present recommendations to improve store operations. Demonstrate mastery of the company's financial software and ability to interpret financial reports for different retail locations.
• Store Management: After core training is complete, assists assigned Store Managers in maintaining store operations during rotations. This may include independently supervising a full shift or providing supervision during store openings or peak business periods. Ensure operating policies and procedures are maintained. Provide work directions and feedback to store staff.
• Work Direction and Team Leadership: After core training is complete, provide work directions to Associates during the assigned shift. Ensure that store areas are cleaned and stocked. Provides direction in resolving customer problems or complaints. Provides feedback to Associates and the Store Manager on performance. Fills in for the Store Manager as needed, supervising staff and taking calls in the absence of the Manager.

Once the incumbent has completed the core management training program, he/she will be scheduled to work in any store in the assigned region. On occasion, maybe asked to provide support outside of the assigned region. In each store, the incumbent will apply the core training to supervising that store's customer service staff and will make decisions within the limits of supervisory policies and practices.

Recommend changes in practices or schedules at the assigned stores for review with the store manager.
