Job Description
Blarney Castle Oil Co. is hiring a Deli Lead in Boyne City, MI. This is a full-time position.
JOB PURPOSE :
The Deli Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of the deli department including leading staff, ordering inventory, and ensuring superior customer service. The Deli Lead will be responsible for ensuring all safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations are adhered to.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE :
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school degree or GED combined with a minimum of six months' experience in food preparation and handling.
• Knowledge of food retail marketing practices.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Inventory management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inspectors and vendors.
• ServSafe certification.
• Basic math skills are necessary.
• Must be able to read and apply company procedure documents.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to greet customers and provide information in an accurate and courteous manner.
• Must be able to work in a team environment.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks accurately and courteously.
• Must be able to complete company-sponsored training and required updates within specified training periods.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• The ability to lift fifty (50) pounds throughout a normal shift, moving and stacking merchandise, cleaning, sweeping, shoveling snow.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to work in commercial refrigerators and freezers for extended periods.
• Ability to operate microwaves, small ovens, scales, and other cooking equipment.
• Ability to read and apply procedures, recipes, and other operating instructions.
• Ability to safely handle all necessary cutting tools.
• The ability to stoop, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work inside coolers to maintain inventory.
• Ability to ascend and descend a five-foot step ladder safely.
MAJOR DUTIES :
• Stocking the deli area with products in a clean and safe manner.
• Prepares Deli trays and products for sale.
• Follows USDA and Michigan Department of Agriculture rules, regulations, and standards for the Deli department.
• Assists with unloading deliveries to ensure the product is received in good condition and stored properly.
• Ensures proper use of scale for correct pricing, weights, and tares.
• Maintains inventory working with Deli/Produce supervisor to select inventory, including types and quantities appropriate for changes in retail activity.
• Develops and maintains good working relationships with external inspectors and purveyors.
• Maintains records of deli inventory, spoilage, write-offs, and other operational data.
• Provides customer service by processing requests accurately in a courteous and pleasant manner.
• Assists customers with locating, choosing, and buying products.
• Ensure equipment, work surfaces, display cases, refrigerators, and freezers are cleaned properly with safe temperatures always maintained.
• Follows all safety standards and regulations, including ServSafe and portion control standards.
• Monitors staff training for compliance and necessary re-certifications.
• May assist in other areas in the store manager's absence.
