Job Description: Pre-sales Application Engineer (PAE) - KNX SolutionsDivision: Building Automation & Control / SpaceLogic KNX SolutionsExperience: 5-8 yearsPosition OverviewSchneider Electric is seeking a highly skilled Pre-sales Application Engineer to support our KNX building automation offerings, including SpaceLogic KNX solutions, KNX Hybrid (ZigBee integration), and integrated building management systems. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise during the pre-sales phase, designing customized KNX solutions for residential, commercial, and small-to-medium building projects while ensuring seamless integration with EcoStruxure™ Building Management Systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Solution Design & Engineering- Design comprehensive KNX system architectures for lighting control, HVAC integration, energy management, and building automation projects
- Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) including KNX devices, sensors, actuators, controllers, touch panels, and gateways
- Create detailed network topologies for KNX installations and integration with Modbus, BACnet, and other building protocols
- Engineer solutions using SpaceLogic KNX range including Touch Units, Hybrid Modules (KNX-ZigBee), and communication gateways
Pre-sales Support & Customer Engagement- Conduct technical needs assessments and site surveys to understand customer requirements
- Prepare technical proposals, RFPs/RFIs, cost estimations, and competitive bid documentation
- Deliver product demonstrations, solution presentations, and technical workshops for consultants, contractors, and end customers
- Design Proof-of-Concept (PoC) and pilot projects to validate proposed KNX solutions
Cross-functional Collaboration- Work closely with sales teams to support project acquisition and closure
- Collaborate with MEP consultants, electrical contractors, architects, and project engineers
- Coordinate with post-sales, commissioning, and support teams for smooth project handover
- Participate in project kick-off meetings and technical review sessions
Documentation & Compliance- Prepare technical assessments, system specifications, and solution documentation
- Ensure compliance with KNX standards, electrical codes, and building automation best practices
- Maintain compliance logs, risk registers, and deviation trackers for pre-sales activities
- Create and update pre-sales collateral, technical datasheets, and case studies
Product Knowledge & Market Intelligence- Stay updated on Schneider Electric's KNX product portfolio and EcoStruxure™ platform capabilities
- Analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies in building automation
- Provide feedback to product management for roadmap enhancements
- Conduct training sessions for sales teams on KNX products and applications
Required QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, or related field
Experience- 5-8 years in building automation, KNX systems, or related pre-sales/application engineering roles
- Proven experience in KNX system design, programming (ETS software), and commissioning
- Strong background in lighting control, HVAC integration, and energy management solutions
Technical Skills- KNX Expertise: KNX Partner/Certified level (mandatory), proficient in ETS software for programming and diagnostics
- Building Protocols: Knowledge of Modbus, BACnet, DALI, DMX, and IoT protocols (ZigBee, Z-Wave)
- System Design: Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, electrical schematics, and architectural plans
- Software Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, estimation tools, and CRM systems
- Integration Knowledge: Understanding of BMS platforms, SCADA systems, and smart building ecosystems
Soft Skills- Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Customer-focused mindset with consultative selling approach
- Willingness to travel (up to 40-50% for customer meetings and site visits)
Preferred Qualifications- KNX Advanced or Tutor certification
- Experience with Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure™ Building platform
- Exposure to smart home and residential automation projects
- Knowledge of energy efficiency standards (LEED, IGBC, ECBC)
- Experience in preparing energy savings calculations and ROI analysis
- Familiarity with wireless building automation (ZigBee, LoRaWAN)
