Job Description:

The Head of Employee and Labour Relations – India has overall responsibility of leading the delivery of Employee Relations and Labor Relations Services in India.

  • You will be responsible for the effective management of Employee Relations matters (grievances, discipline) measured by resolution of service requests within defined time periods, levels of accuracy and quality standards and customer satisfaction levels.
  • You will provide Labor Relations oversight for India and support and advise on the collective bargaining process including developing and implementing a country strategy, which promotes harmonious relationships with the Union and ensures business continuity and outcomes.
  • You will ensure that the terms and conditions of employment in India is compliant with legal standards and internal company requirements.
  • As a Head of Employee and Labour Relations, you will lead the development of internal Employee and Labour relations capabilities with HR, Managers and Employees.
  • You will provide subject matter expertise on significant workplace or individual events including restructuring, acquisitions, divestitures, outsourcing etc. You will take on key responsibility in leading a team that provides services in a timely manner, treats the workforce respectfully and maintains high levels of confidentiality, trust and integrity in the handling of sensitive matters. You will also be involved in delivering pro-active Employee and Labour relations work, process excellence and continuous improvement.


Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Country specific ER/LR Strategy in alignment with Global and ASPAC
  • ER/LR strategy and vision.
  • Employee Relations – Ensure timely and compliant handling of all Grievance and Discipline Requests, Coach & train managers and employees and build capability within the employee relations team.
  • Labor Relations: Development, implementation and mentorship on Labor Relations Strategy, preparation & negotiation of CBA within agreed parameters with BUHR, Business impact assessment, Ad hoc Labor Relations advising including for major workforce events (M& A, Divestitures, Restructuring).
  • Performance Management – Coach managers on handling performance issues.
  • Provide ER/LR advice to plants in India.
  • Actively participate in policy compliance and governance ensuring consistent positive employee experience. Ensure workplace policies are current and in compliance with applicable local laws.
  • Build an external professional network to maintain an appropriate view of the workplace and marketplace including the delivery of pro-active training and insights.
  • Mentor, manage and motivate team members to achieve and exceed service standards by identifying staff performance gaps, allocating time to listen, assess and provide constructive feedback for performance improvement.
  • Implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve provision of services by reviewing and providing feedback on operational processes, policies, standard operating procedures and work instructions and introduce key improvement plans for execution.


Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Stay current on country (countries) employment and labor practices.
  • Develop staff capability, knowledge, skills and understanding of India by organizing frequent functional/ operational training and knowledge sharing activities for members of the team.
  • Comply with and carry out standards for maintaining a confidential and sensitive work environment for team.
  • Conduct environmental scans and participate in significant workplace events (such as the planning and execution of RIF’s, M& A’s, etc. at the country level.

Eligibility:

  • A minimum of a Post Graduation is required, HR or Legal preferred.
  • A minimum of 10-12 years Human Resources experience and 3 years of people management is required.
  • Proven experience in diagnosing organizational needs, designing and implementing solutions to build functional and leadership capability of the organization is required.
  • Successful experience in working and managing stakeholders in complex, multi-functional business environments.
  • A change management champion who can lead the business and team through the process successfully.
  • Able to analyze and connect multiple inputs and translate into simple solutions and messages.
  • Must be able to partner effectively and influence at all levels in a matrix environment with strong interpersonal skills and effectiveness
  • Proven track record in building a trusting relationship, fostering a transparent environment, communicating difficult messages in an empathetic and professional manner
  • Demonstrated Leadership attributes and achievements aligned with J& J’s Leadership Imperatives
  • Strong time management skills and focus on self and team accountability.
