About the Role:
The Alcoa Steamship Company has a 100+ year history as an American Shipping Company. Alcoa Steamship is looking for a Maritime Vessel Operator to join our team in Brazil. The position will oversee seaborne vessel operations for the movement of raw materials and strategic commodities within Alcoa’s Global Maritime Portfolio. This role reports to the Operations Manager. This forward- facing role interacts with daily with Alcoa refineries, smelters, mines, as well as ship owners, brokers and vessel agents around the world.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide and ensure accurate, efficient vessel operations to a Global portfolio of shipping activity – Working as part of a cross functional team supporting maritime business in Brazil, Europe, Australia, and the United States;
Track position of ships monitoring expected time of arrival (ETA) and communicate to relevant parties;
Manage the documentation and operational requirements of assigned trades and various locations;
Interact with agents at ports, terminals and internal locations to identify opportunities and resolve operational issues;
Ensure timely and accurate payment of freight, demurrage and other miscellaneous items, including voyage reporting and analysis;
Calculate and negotiation laytime settlements with shipowners;
Update, maintain, and distribute forecast reports to locations;
Daily, communicate operational data verbally and/or through written correspondence, with Alcoa Steamship personnel, internal customers, direct materials procurement managers, ship owners, agents and ship brokers, foreign and domestic port agents, and cargo suppliers;
Maintain a database of relevant voyage costs and location data.
What you can bring to this role:
BS Logistics, Business, Supply Chain or other strong analytical/critical thinking skills.
Excellent Computer and Database Mgmt.
Microsoft Office Suite, and Power BI.
Excellent Communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work in a team environment.
Flexible schedule required to deal with international time zones.
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
