BMS Software Design Engineer - (Engineer II, Digital Systems Technical Execution)

The BMS Software Engineer is responsible for developing, configuring, testing, and validating Building Management System software solutions for a wide range of facility automation projects. The role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, control logic development, BMS communication protocols, and software engineering best practices.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on DDC and controls programming experience with analytical problem-solving skills, a quality-focused mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with global customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
What You Will Do

• Interpret project specifications, sequences of operation, plant schematics, system architecture drawings, and customer requirements to develop effective BMS software solutions.
• Design, develop, configure, and maintain DDC and PLC application software using proprietary programming platforms and industry-standard programming methodologies.
• Develop control strategies, logic diagrams, functional sequences, alarms, trends, schedules, and supervisory control applications.
• Configure and integrate BMS communication protocols including BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, OPC, and other applicable automation standards.
• Engineer complete HVAC control solutions for air handling units, chiller systems, boiler plants, variable air volume systems, and related mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot software control loops and optimize system functionality to achieve operational and performance requirements.
• Perform offline programming, simulation, testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities to ensure robust and reliable system performance.
• Conduct functionality verification against project requirements, specifications, and sequences of operation.
• Collaborate closely with design engineering, graphics engineering, commissioning, and project execution teams to ensure timely project delivery.
• Produce clear technical documentation, testing records, software backups, and project deliverables in accordance with company standards.
• Manage engineering tasks and deliverables while maintaining project schedules, reporting progress, and communicating technical risks.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, reusable software libraries, engineering standards, and best practices

Software control applications, testing documentation and commissioning support.

HVAC systems

Air Handling Units (AHUs), Chiller Systems, Boiler Plants, Variable Air Volume (VAV) Systems, Pumps, Cooling Systems, and associated plant controls.

Engineering tools

Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Building Operations Software, Testing Tools, Microsoft 365 applications, reporting tools, and project collaboration platforms.

System Integration

Integration of field devices, supervisory systems, SCADA platforms, and third-party equipment through industry-standard protocols.
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a BMS Software Engineer or in a similar controls automation role.
• Experience with DDC programming and software development within Building Management Systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming using Function Block Diagram (FBD), Script-Based Programming, and/or Ladder Logic.
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, applications, and control strategies.
• Experience working with BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, OPC, or similar communication protocols.
• Ability to interpret sequences of operation, plant schematics, system architecture drawings, and project specifications.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to HVAC control systems and software applications.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with global customers and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work effectively in offshore and globally distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

• Experience supporting healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, industrial, or data center projects.
• Experience working within Global Engineering Centers or international project environments.
• Familiarity with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), validation processes, and commissioning activities.
• Knowledge of building automation regulations, codes, and standards across multiple geographic regions.
• Experience with SCADA applications and supervisory control systems.
• Familiarity with engineering progress reporting tools, project execution methodologies, and quality systems.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver complete, defect-free software solutions within project schedules.
