Sentient Digital, Inc. is hiring a Technical Writer in Brunswick, ME. This is a full-time position.

Description We are seeking a part-time (10-20 hours weekly, on average) Technical Writer with a scientific background and strong technical literacy to develop and maintain software documentation, web-based content, user guidance, and other technical content. This role will also support the preparation and editing of patent disclosures, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposals, and related technical communications, all in support of US Navy Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) defense contracting initiatives. Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and revise software documentation, user manuals, web-based help content, technical guides, and related user-facing materials.Develop and promote documentation standards, templates, style conventions, and workflows to improve consistency and maintainability across technical content.Work closely with software engineers, test engineers, scientists, and other subject matter experts to gather technical information and translate complex systems, processes, and concepts into clear and accurate documentation.Develop documentation for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, including end users, technical and engineering personnel, government program managers and sponsors, and executive leadership.Organize and maintain documentation throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring content remains accurate as software capabilities, interfaces, and workflows evolve.Coordinate technical reviews of documentation with engineering teams, and incorporate feedback and manage revisions through approval and release.Maintain documentation using established version control practices.Create diagrams, screenshots, examples, workflows, and other supporting material to improve the clarity and usability of technical documentation.Review existing documentation for accuracy, consistency, readability, and completeness, identifying gaps and working with subject matter experts to resolve them.Support the preparation, editing, and review of technical material for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposals and other technical proposals.Support preparation and editing of invention disclosures, patent-related technical descriptions, and supporting documentation in coordination with engineers, scientists, management, and intellectual property counsel.Assist with other technical communications, reports, presentations, and documentation as needed in support of U.S. Navy Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) programs. Required Qualifications U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to work alongside engineers and subject matter experts to identify and extract relevant information, processes, and requirements.Demonstrated ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. Desired Qualifications Experience translating complex processes into clear user manuals, guides, software documentation, or web-based help content.Experience using structured or web-based documentation tools and workflows.Experience using version control systems.Familiarity with project management concepts, including multi-team timelines and coordination of document reviews.Bachelors degree in a scientific, engineering, or related technical discipline.Working knowledge of mathematics, physics, or underwater acoustics.Prior military experience. Additional Information Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check prior to employment. Physical requirements for this position include the ability to lift 25 pounds regularly, the ability to move safely in confined spaces, the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when needed, the ability to go onsite to company and customer worksites, the ability to remain seated for extended periods of time, the ability to use a computer keyboard, and the ability to see and respond to dangerous situations when needed.
