Role Summary

T. Rowe Price's Distribution & Marketing Services teams are building the next generation of cloud-native experiences that change the way people invest and manage their financial futures. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who combines strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies — and who brings deep expertise in Java and AWS to bear on meaningful, complex challenges.

You will join a small, highly collaborative team that values curiosity, technical rigor, and accountability to provide technical & thought leadership that addresses a variety of cross-cutting capabilities utilized by a wide range of developers. Our work spans modern microservice development, emerging AI integration patterns – including Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation – as well as an internal developer portal that provides a 360-degree view of our technology portfolio (UIs, APIs, MCPs, libraries, etc.). We build software worth being proud of, and we're looking for someone who holds themselves to that same standard.

Responsibilities

You will take ownership of significant areas of development — contributing not just at the code level, but in shaping solutions, influencing engineering standards, and helping teams improve their quality and level of execution. A meaningful part of this role involves working at the forefront of cutting-edge engineering that gives developers across the organization a unified, comprehensive suite of assets and capabilities. Specifically, you will:

  • Lead development efforts across the full software lifecycle.
  • Contribute to and help define engineering best practices.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and engage in substantive design discussions.
  • Evaluate tactical vs. strategic tradeoffs with an eye toward the long-term health of the codebase.
  • Take accountability for the technical debt and enhancements within your own work.

Qualifications

We place a premium on strong problem-solving ability and a genuine drive to learn continuously – particularly as we expand into new AI-adjacent engineering domains. Alongside that, you will need solid technical depth in Java and AWS to be effective from day one and experience in Typescript/Node.js or Python are also a plus.

Required:

  • Passion for problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • 5+ years of progressive software development experience, including microservice architecture.
  • Deep expertise designing, building, deploying, and supporting Java backend systems.
  • Hands-on AWS experience across services such as ECS, EC2/Fargate, Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, ALB, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and IAM.
  • Experience writing unit tests and working across a variety of testing frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A product mindset — focused on supporting and evolving a living product rather than simply delivering a project.
  • Ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment, provide and receive candid feedback, and keep teammates informed as you drive work forward.
  • Strong documentation practices in code as well as in design and consumer-facing materials.
  • Ability to troubleshoot your own work and support others in resolving theirs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with TypeScript/Node.js and Python.
  • Familiarity with Open Telemetry, Apigee, HashiCorp Vault, Kafka, Postgres, and/or Splunk.

Applicants for employment in the US must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (e.g., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant work status)
