Summary Provides support for O, I and D-level tasks in support of Presidential Helicopter platforms in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP), applicable technical data, and federal contract requirements.
Upholsterer supporting VH-92A, VH-3D, VH-60N, test aircraft and other aircraft periodically hosted by PMA-274.
Description: Repairs and rebuilds upholstered aircraft furnishings using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods. Support includes removing coverings, webbing and padding from seats, arms, backs and sides of work-piece using a tack puller, chisel and mallet. Removes defective springs by cutting cords or wires that hold springs in place, replaces webbing and springs, or reties springs as necessary. Measures and cuts new covering material, installs material on inside of arms, backs, seats, and over outside backs and arms. Tacks or sews ornamental trim, such as braid and buttons, to cover and frame. Operates sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering materials. Repairs wooden frame of work-piece. Repairs seats from various types of aircraft. Repairs a variety of items requiring special shaping, cushioning and covering including aircraft insulation and soundproofing panels. Repairs special devices, assemblies and other items such as carpets and other fabrics.
Essential Functions - Perform complex aircraft maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repair, and modification
- Document maintenance actions in aircraft logs and approved maintenance systems
- Ensure compliance with Tool Control, FOD, safety, and quality programs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Duties - Inspect/troubleshoot/maintain/modify upholstered aircraft furnishings
- Interpret technical manuals, drawings, and directives
- Document maintenance actions per NAMP requirements
Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience performing tasks listed in position description
- Working knowledge of publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams and schematics are mandatory, military applications preferred
- Working knowledge of upholstery, sewing processes and products
- 5+ years aviation maintenance experience preferred
- 3+ years VH-92A, VH-3D, VH-60N or similar aircraft maintenance experience preferred
- Must be able to work, day, swing or mid shift as required
Physical Requirements Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing and walking for extended periods, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and vision to use tools and inspect aircraft systems. Must be able to work in high-noise environments, wear required PPE, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
