About the Opportunity
The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Research Department has an immediate opening for a Regional Economist, reporting to the Vice President Applied Analysis.
In this role, the successful candidate supports the Bank's survey work and the Bank’s regional and community work in Maryland, DC, and West Virginia through a number of activities that include survey analysis and economic updates to internal and external audiences. The candidate will lead Bank strategic initiatives related to regional economic and survey-related topics. The candidate must develop tools and methods to track economic developments in Maryland, DC, and West Virginia, provide briefings to the Bank President and other executives, and maintain contacts in academic and business communities. The ideal candidate has strong empirical experience. Business outreach will include gathering information from contacts to support the regional outreach program. The candidate will also engage with the media. The position will be based in Baltimore, MD.

What You Will Do:
Engage in monetary policy-relevant analysis on regional and national business survey data.
Support the Bank's regional outreach by giving presentations to internal and external audiences on economic conditions and policy topics.
Monitor and analyze regional economic and community conditions. '
Develop tools and methods to identify and track changes in regional economic conditions.
Contribute economic analysis and commentary content to Bank's website.
Develop and maintain contacts in academic and business communities.
Communicate with the media, when necessary.
Qualifications:
3 – 5 or more years of relevant work experience.
Graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Economics or related field required.
Strong empirical skills required. Experience working with survey data preferred.
Demonstrated desire to conduct outreach to a wide variety of audiences.
A comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and regional economic conditions and a commitment to keep abreast of emerging trends or changes.
Demonstrated desire to engage strategically with the public on economic and policy topics and translate economic information into reports and presentations.
Outstanding attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in time management to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and to meet schedule deadlines.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft software.
Knowledge of and experience with statistical software, such as Stata or R
Knowledge of methods around survey data collection and analysis strongly preferred

Sponsorship is not available for this role. The selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility for this specific position requires U.S. Citizenship or three or more years of Permanent Resident (Green Card) status.
The hiring range of the Regional Economist is $125, 800 – $172, 000 annually.
Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as defined in the job qualifications.
