POSITION PURPOSE

The mission of the Global Technology Innovation team is to identify and scale-up advanced technologies into commercializable innovations to realize Baltimore Aircoil Company’s (BAC) vision to reinvent cooling to sustain the world. Headquartered in Jessup, MD, the Global Technology Innovation team is a fast-paced, high-energy innovation driver for sustainable industrial and commercial heat rejection, thermal energy storage, thermal management, water treatment and monitoring, and carbon capture technologies. We are looking for a curious, humble, and resilient Advanced Engineer, R& D, to play a key role in helping our team develop and scale technologies that will create lasting sustainable value.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Under general direction, lead or support technology projects to evaluate and scale-up cutting-edge heat rejection, thermal energy storage, thermal management, water treatment and monitoring, and carbon capture technologies.
  • Act as working leader: drive technology project execution, manage project team, schedule, and budget, and communicate with functional leader and executive sponsor(s).
  • Perform prototyping, experimentation, and data collection and analysis tasks in the lab and in the field
  • Design and assemble test apparatus, data acquisition systems, and control systems, and develop test plans.
  • Conduct and document benchtop to full-scale lab and field testing assignments, and analyze test data, synthesize results, develop numerical models, and present findings to internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Interface with Test Lab, Support Systems, Core Technology, New Product Introduction, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology teams on key aspects of Technology Innovation projects, including test plan development and execution, test data analysis, and numerical model development.
  • Participate in planning and review meetings with the Technology innovation team.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, and BAC’s global network of external technology partners.
  • Provide technical expertise to the BAC organization and participate in cross-functional innovation activities.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Advanced Engineer, R& D, will report to the Director, Global Technology Innovation. As part of the Global Engineering Department, the Advanced Engineer, R& D will have frequent interaction with the Core Technology, Support Systems, Test Lab, New Product Introduction, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology groups within BAC, and external technology partners outside of BAC. The position will have no direct reports.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field required.
  • Four or more years of applicable progressively complex Engineering experience in high-performing Research and Development and/or New Product Development organizations required.
  • Professional experience in heat and mass exchanger design and/or related disciplines (e.g. heat transfer, fluid flow, coupled heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics) required.
  • Proven ability and experience in working in cross-functional teams across several departments required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and develop testing specifications, carry out tests, analyze test data, and develop numerical models.
  • Practical experience with Labview, DASYLab, Matlab/Simulink, and/or similar data acquisition programs.
  • Hands-on experience with design, fabrication, assembly, and setup of experiments, test fixtures, data acquisition systems, and/or control systems
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and present results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to take informal leadership roles and excellent follow-through skills
  • Enthusiastic team player: willing to participate in a team-oriented environment and to collaborate with team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to execute multiple projects and tasks at a given time; proactive in identifying and communicating project/task impediments and risks, and recommending potential solutions.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, FEA, and/or CFD, and applied code writing experience.
  • Good understanding of fluid dynamics, psychrometrics, and controls theory and applications
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $70, 600 – $121, 000.
