The Application Design Engineer - Demo Leader is the creative and technical force behind EAE's demonstration portfolio in the United States. Your mission is simple: make EcoStruxure Automation Expert impossible to ignore. You will design, build, and maintain a best-in-class demo ecosystem - translating IEC 61499's technical depth into experiences that resonate with engineers, executives, and everyone in between. From trade show floors to customer briefing centers, you are the person who makes EAE come alive.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, storytelling, and strategy. It requires someone who can solder a panel in the morning, script a compelling demo narrative by afternoon, and present to a room full of skeptical engineers the next day.
What You'll Do:
Build & Develop Demos:
▸ Design and develop hardware and software demo assets that showcase EAE's core value
propositions - IEC 61499 portability, scalability, IT/OT convergence, and ease of integration.
▸ Build application-specific demos tailored to target verticals (e.g., Food & Beverage, Water &
Wastewater, Mining, Data Centers) that map EAE capabilities to real operational challenges.
▸ Develop reusable demo modules, function block libraries, and CAT elements that can be adapted quickly for different audiences and contexts.
▸ Create companion materials for each demo: scripted narratives, one-pagers, technical deep-dive guides, and video walkthroughs.
▸ Prototype new demo concepts rapidly - validate ideas in the lab before investing in full builds.
Define & Execute Demo Strategy:
▸ Develop and own the US EAE demo strategy: what to build, for whom, when, and why - aligned to commercial priorities and market segments.
▸ Map the existing demo portfolio against the sales pipeline and identify coverage gaps by vertical, use case, or buyer persona.
▸ Define KPIs for demo effectiveness (e.g., demo-to-opportunity conversion, event engagement rates, repeat demo requests) and track them over time.
▸ Work with the global EAE CoE to align US demo investments with international best practices and avoid duplication of effort.
▸ Produce a rolling 12-month demo roadmap, prioritizing builds based on revenue opportunity, strategic fit, and feasibility.
Maintain & Evolve the Demo Portfolio:
▸ Own the full lifecycle of all US EAE demo assets - hardware inventory, software versioning,
calibration, and reliability.
▸ Keep demos current with each EAE software release: update configurations, test compatibility, and revise narratives to reflect new features.
▸ Maintain a demo asset registry tracking location, status, configuration version, and upcoming maintenance needs.
▸ Proactively identify demos that are outdated, underperforming, or misaligned with market priorities and propose replacements.
▸ Manage demo hardware logistics: shipping, setup, teardown, and storage across the US territory. Represent EAE at Shows & Events
▸ Lead the technical presence for EAE at trade shows, industry conferences, customer briefing centers, and partner events across the US.
▸ Deliver live demos to mixed audiences - calibrating technical depth on the fly based on audience background and engagement level.
▸ Coordinate with marketing and sales teams on event strategy, booth layout, demo selection, and talking points.
▸ Capture attendee feedback, lead quality, and competitive intelligence at each event and report findings to the CoE and product teams.
▸Represent Schneider Electric as a credible, knowledgeable voice on IEC 61499 and industrial automation trends at public forums.
Enable the Sales Team:
▸ Train sales engineers and BDMs to deliver EAE demos independently for routine customer interactions - freeing the Demo Leader for high-complexity or high-stakes engagements.
▸ Develop demo playbooks and cheat sheets that allow the broader team to run consistent, compelling demonstrations without deep EAE expertise.
▸ Act as the go-to resource for demo-related questions: recommending the right asset for a given customer, vertical, or stage in the sales cycle.
Capture & Share Knowledge:
▸ Document demo architectures, configurations, and lessons learned in a structured, searchable format accessible to the full CoE team.
▸ Produce internal case studies and debrief reports after major events or customer engagements.
▸ Contribute to the global EAE knowledge base by sharing US-specific demo innovations, customer feedback, and market insights with international counterparts.
▸ Maintain a living library of demo assets, scripts, and supporting materials on the CoE SharePoint.
Experience:
▸ 2-5 years of experience in industrial automation, embedded software engineering, or a technical pre-sales / application engineering role.
▸ Proven track record of building and delivering technical demonstrations or proof-of-concept systems - in a lab, on a trade show floor, or both.
▸ Experience presenting to technical and non-technical audiences; comfort with live, unscripted Q& A.
Technical Skills:
▸ Experience developing software for control systems - PLC, IEC 61499/61131-3 function blocks, or equivalent embedded/industrial programming frameworks.
▸ Software development: C/C++, Python, JavaScript, # (HMI integration).
▸ Linux and Windows development environments; Docker/Kubernetes/Swarm; virtualization. ▸ Industrial networking: LAN/WAN/VLAN, managed switches, Modbus, EthernetIP, Profinet, MQTT, OPC UA.
▸ Hardware integration: I/O wiring, panel assembly, PLC/drive configuration, sensor commissioning.
▸ Familiarity with IIoT platforms, edge computing, and IT/OT convergence concepts.
Mindset:
▸ Builder mentality - you are most satisfied when something works that didn't exist before. ▸ High ownership: you treat demo assets as products, not one-offs. You care about quality, reliability, and longevity.
▸ Storyteller: you instinctively translate technical facts into compelling narratives that move people.
▸ Organized and rigorous - you can manage a complex inventory of hardware and software across multiple locations without things slipping.
▸ Energized by live events and customer contact; you perform well under pressure and recover fast when things go sideways.
Education:
▸ Master/Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical field.
