Risk Management Foundation is hiring a Lead Content Writer and Editor in Boston, MA. This is a full-time position.
Role Summary The Lead Content Writer and Editor develops, edits, and leads the production of strategic content that translates complex patient safety, medical professional liability, insurance, financial, and organizational information into clear, accurate, and engaging communications. Working across CRICO and Candello, our medical professional liability data collaborative, this role supports editorial projects from concept through publication and helps ensure that content aligns with audience needs, organizational priorities, and our editorial standards. The role partners with clinicians, analysts, organizational leaders, and other subject-matter experts to synthesize complex information, identify meaningful stories and key messages, and communicate data-informed insights, emerging risks, and opportunities to improve patient safety and mitigate risk. This individual also serves as a communications partner and department representative, preparing and presenting written and verbal content for internal stakeholders, senior leaders, and external audiences as appropriate. The role supports the communications team by mentoring colleagues on writing, editing, storytelling, and editorial standards. Responsibilities Enterprise Content Development Lead and support the development of CRICO and Candello content from concept through publication, including reports, newsletters, case studies, web content, white papers, journal articles, executive/Board materials, and other communications as needed.Research, write, edit, restructure, and refine complex material independently and in collaboration with subject-matter experts and organizational leaders.Develop articles and advance thought leadership based on CRICO and Candello research, data analyses, and subject-matter expertise for publication in external industry, healthcare, and peer-reviewed publications.Identify key messages, narrative approaches, and audience needs to translate complex clinical information and malpractice claims data into compelling, accessible content.Ensure content is accurate, appropriately sourced, and consistent with CRICO and Candello editorial, brand, and writing standards. Data Interpretation and Storytelling Collaborate with analysts and subject-matter experts to communicate meaningful trends in medical professional liability, patient safety, and related data.Translate quantitative and qualitative findings into clear narratives, key messages, visual concepts, and actionable insights for clinical, executive, insurance, and other audiences.Review data-driven content and visualizations for accuracy, appropriate context, and consistency with methodology and source information. Executive and Governance Communications Develop and edit communications and materials for quarterly Board meetings. Audience includes senior leadership team (SMT) and CRICOs Board.Partner with senior leaders and subject-matter experts to accurately communicate organizational priorities, recommendations, risks, and key developments as needed.Prepare, refine, and present department-level communications, briefings, and talking points that support leadership discussions and stakeholder engagement while maintaining brand guidelines, writing style guide, and data interpretation. Editorial Project Leadership Provide enterprise-wide strategic editorial leadership. Lead production of assigned publications and communications initiatives, coordinating scope, timelines, content requirements, review, and deliverables.Coordinate contributions and reconcile feedback from cross-functional teams, senior leaders, clinicians, analysts, consultants, and external experts.Develop, document, and continuously improve editorial processes, workflows, and best practices to increase efficiency, consistency, and knowledge sharing.Mentor communications team on content structure, message development, editing practices, and audience-focused writing to strengthen overall editorial quality and consistency across the department. Content Portfolio Content may include: Clinical case studies and educational resourcesMonthly and quarterly newsletters for Candello clientsAnnual industry benchmarking reportsData-focused web and blog contentPeer-reviewed journal articles and content creation for other external healthcare publicationsBoard and executive materialsCorporate communications for insureds, e.g., insurance fact sheetsPatient safety materials, such as patient safety alerts and OB clinical guidelines as neededOther priority communications as needed Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required in communications, journalism, public health, health sciences, English, or a related field.5+ years of professional experience in content development, copyediting, corporate communications, or related work. Experience in healthcare, patient safety, insurance, public health, or another complex technical field strongly preferred.Exceptional writing, substantive editing, copyediting, and information-synthesis skills.Demonstrated experience translating complex or technical information for varied audiences.Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the ability to develop clear, polished materials for senior leadership. Experience supporting Board-level content strongly preferred.Experience with Microsoft programs, including Power BI or similar software preferred. Skills Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify key messages and synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives.Strong project management, organizational, prioritization, and facilitation skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple assignments and deadlines.Ability to collaborate effectively with subject-matter experts, senior leaders, and other stakeholders.Ability to serve as a department representative, presenting information clearly and confidently in meetings, briefings, and stakeholder discussions.Ability to coach and mentor others in writing, editing, and content development with accuracy and strong attention to detail.Familiarity with medical terminology and ability to develop fluency in specialized healthcare, patient safety, insurance, and medical professional liability topics.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and ability to effectively adopt emerging content-development, collaboration, data visualization, and AI-enabled tools. Proficiency in use and responsible application of AI tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft CoPilot, etc.).Strong data literacy with ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative findings and communicate data accurately and accessibly. People Management: No direct reports. Lead Content Writer and Editor mentors junior staff and supports day-to-day communications operations.
