Position Summary:

Boston REACH program through the BPHC strives to improve health and reduce disparities among Boston’s residents of color with particular focus of the neighborhood of East Boston. Project strategies focus on nutrition, physical activity, early child care and education. The project coordinator will partner with the Boston Public Health Commission’s REACH Project team by engaging the East Boston Healthy Families Collaborative (EBHFC) in the project’s community engagement activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with BPHC REACH team to develop annual REACH work plans for East Boston over the length of the grant
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with REACH Project team. Participate in additional meetings with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) team and other partners as requested.
  • Maintain up to date REACH Action Plan. Provide monthly report on project progress and outcomes to East Boston Healthy families Collaborative
  • Participate in the Boston REACH evaluation activities as requested by the REACH Project team
  • Serve as co-chair of the City of Boston Farmers Market advisory committee
  • Work collaboratively with the NeighborHealth Food Access Coordinator to support food access needs in the community
  • Organize community engagement activities to engage residents in the Farmers Market affordability and active living initiatives
  • Participate in, and inform activities of, the Farm to ECE and BHCCI ECE Advisory Groups
  • Work with BPHC, Boston Transportation Department, Boston Planning and Development Agency, Walk Massachusetts and others to be determined partners on completing two Active Communities Tool modules for East Boston Specific projects to support will be agreed on by all REACH partners.
  • Work with BPHC’s Infection Disease Bureau to identify community engagement activities for development of BPHC’s vaccination communications campaign.
  • Strengthen and expand the existing East Boston Health Families Collaborative membership identifying and connecting with new organizations for participation and maintaining connection with existing participant organizations.
  • Program development and coordination: Setting and maintaining a regular meeting structure for the Healthy Families Collaborative; facilitate regular cadence of meetings.
  • Regular cadence of EBHFC communication- developing a system of communication for Healthy Families Collaborative members and maintaining active communication with group members between meetings.
  • Maintain the East Boston Healthy Families Collaborative website and shared community calendar.
  • identify programs and resources to be highlighted on the website; maintaining ongoing communication with community-facing organizations that run programming to ensure that website and calendar is continually updated and has current information.
  • Technology use and development: Developing social media tools to publicly advertise website to community members; training EBHFC and other organization staff to use website
  • As promote the NeighborHealth website and calendar as a useful and well-utilized resource for the community and organizations that serve youth and families in East Boston
  • Maintain excellent punctuality and attendance.
  • Promote a sense of “team work” through demonstration of self-direction and self-motivation. Solve problems independently or knows when to seek consultation.
  • Displays outstanding customer service skills when interacting with all NeighborHealth customers according to the ACE model.
  • Adheres to all NeighborHealth and departmental polices and procedures.
  • Participate in required departmental activities and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • previous experience working with community organizations preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong Spanish skills desired
