Overview

The Image Acquisition Specialist (IAS) will be trained and certified to perform all functions relative to the acquisition of retinal images using a variety of digital retinal imaging systems.

The IAS will acquire pertinent medical history and retinal images and work with the program coordinator to provide high-level care in a clinical telemedicine program. The IAS will provide other support to the team in order to achieve program goals, and other functions as requested by the Chief, Center for Ocular Telehealth, or the programs coordinator.

Hours are Monday-Friday, 9: 00am - 5: 30pm

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing orders on daily basis for patients
  • Identifying and accessing patients for imaging
  • Collecting and electronically recording into the data base the patient demographic and health information history carefully and accurately as well as assisting in maintaining data warehouse and generation of reports
  • Acquiring accurate ocular history
  • Providing appropriate educational information to the patient regarding purpose of retinal imaging program and diabetes eye care
  • Obtaining high quality, accurate retinal images
  • Reviewing retinal images for quality and possible abnormalities
  • Arranging for a patient with vision threatening findings to meet with JVN coordinator subsequent to imaging
  • Reconciling that images, as well as multiple software programs used by JVN, are completed properly and are transmitted to staff at BEI who will interpret and generate a report
  • Scheduling BEI exams when appropriate for follow-up treatment
  • Maintaining daily care of condition and cleanliness of imaging device and work station
  • Supporting JVN patient coordinator in arranging patient follow-up
  • Supports scanning documents into the EHR as part of the patients medical record
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • High school diploma; associate degree or certification/experience in medical environment desirable
  • Interest and/or experience in health care preferred
  • The successful applicant will be trained and certified to perform job responsibilities, resulting in provisional imager certification within 1 month of hire and full certification within 3 months of provisional certification.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills required
  • Experience with or aptitude to learn Microsoft Office applications
  • Fluency in Spanish or Cantonese/Mandarin or other Asian languages desirable, not required
