Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking the best talent for a dedicated Post-Doctoral Fellow in Oncology Drug Delivery Research to join our Bladder Disease Area Stronghold team in Lexington, MA. The position focuses on advancing our understanding of drug transport mechanisms for intralumenal, localized drug delivery in genitourinary (GU) oncology. The research will particularly focus on phenomena that govern molecular diffusion, permeation and surface interactions for solid, semi-solid and liquid phase biological and synthetic materials. This postdoctoral opportunity will last 24 months and offers a chance to contribute to novel local delivery therapeutic strategies in GU cancer treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hands on lab-based research to elucidate the transport mechanisms for model compounds and next generation therapeutic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) targets using in vitro, rate-controlling constructs, e.g. simulated boundary layers and diffusion media.

  • Mathematical modeling of molecular diffusion in multi-phase systems and determining primary rate limiting physical and chemical properties of model and strategic molecules of interest.

  • Integrate output of laboratory and mathematical simulations to provide drug delivery guidelines for molecular transport across multi-phase systems as a function of molecular properties.

  • Design, execute, and interpret complex experiments relevant to transport mechanisms as applied to GU biological macro- and micro-environments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the feasibility of localized delivery of strategic molecular assets in different GU environments.

  • Work alongside other researchers, scientists and engineers to facilitate data sharing and foster collaborative research efforts.

  • Communicate results clearly to multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Materials Science, Molecular Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or a related field, obtained within the last two years.

  • Proven ability to conduct experiments that assess molecular transport.

  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating excellent research capabilities.

  • Proficiency in experimental techniques and computational methods relevant to molecular transport and surface reactions kinetics in thin and semi-infinite solid, liquid and/or semi-solid systems.

  • Familiarity with tumor and margin microenvironment and its influence on transport mechanisms is preferred.

  • Familiarity with creating and using materials to simulate in vivo environments is preferred.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require future sponsorship for employment visa status.

  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally to one to two conferences per year.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $77, 000 to $121, 900.

  • Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

  • Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

  • Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

    • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

    • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

    • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
