Position Overview

The Sr. Director of Data Governance & Quality is a senior enterprise leader responsible for establishing and scaling a comprehensive data governance and data quality capability across the organization. With deep expertise in medical devices and regulated healthcare data, this role ensures that Healthcare Professional (HCP) data, People With Diabetes (PWD/patient) data, and Product data are accurate, trusted, compliant, and analytics-ready.

The SR. Director will define governance strategy, build the operating model, establish stewardship accountability, and implement technology and processes that enable high-quality data for commercial execution, patient engagement, product traceability, regulatory compliance, and AI/advanced analytics initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the enterprise Data Governance & Quality strategy, positioning data as a critical, trusted enterprise asset.
  • Establish governance frameworks, policies, standards, and decision rights aligned with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, FDA, ISO).
  • Build and lead a Data Governance & Quality Center of Excellence (COE), including governance, data quality engineering, metadata, and master data management functions.
  • Own data quality outcomes for HCP, PWD, and Product domains, including data cleaning, standardization, deduplication, enrichment, and prevention of recurring issues.
  • Establish domain-based data ownership and stewardship models with clear accountability across business and technology teams.
  • Implement and oversee Master Data capabilities to create and maintain golden records for HCP, PWD, and Product data.
  • Define and track enterprise data quality KPIs, scorecards, and service levels; report progress and risks to executive leadership.
  • Ensure privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles are embedded into data governance processes in partnership with Legal, Privacy, and Information Security.
  • Oversee metadata management, business glossary, data lineage, and certification of trusted data products.
  • Partner closely with IT, data engineering, analytics, commercial, medical, quality, and regulatory teams to embed governance into data pipelines and platforms.
  • Enable AI, advanced analytics, and digital product initiatives by ensuring governed, high-quality, and well-documented data assets.
  • Lead change management, training, and communication programs to build a culture of data accountability and stewardship across the enterprise.


Domain Focus Areas
  • HCP Data: Provider identity resolution, affiliations, hierarchies, specialties, contactability, consent, and territory alignment.
  • PWD / Patient Data: Privacy-first identity management, consent and authorization, engagement and journey data, and regulatory-compliant data minimization.
  • Product Data: Product and device master data, UDI attributes, hierarchies, versioning, lot/serial traceability, service, and complaint linkage.


Organizational Leadership
  • Build and scale a high-performing organization including leaders for Data Governance, Data Quality Engineering, Master & Reference Data, and Metadata Enablement.
  • Establish and chair a cross-functional Data Governance Council and domain-level data boards.
  • Mentor and develop data leaders, stewards, and practitioners across business and technology teams.


Required Skills & Competencies
  • 15+ years of experience in data management, data governance, and data quality, with significant experience in medical devices, life sciences, or regulated healthcare.
  • Deep expertise in data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), data quality management, MDM, metadata, and data lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare and medical device regulatory environments, including HIPAA, GDPR, FDA, ISO 13485, and post-market surveillance data needs.
  • Proven executive leadership skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Hands-on experience implementing enterprise data governance and quality tools and platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data issues into business and patient impact.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging executives, regulators, technical teams, and business users.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale change management and cultural transformation initiatives.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, advanced analytics, and digital health initiatives with governed data.
  • Professional certifications such as CDMP, DGSP, or equivalent.
  • Experience operating in global, matrixed organizations.


Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred.

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $204, 500.00 - $306, 725.00 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
