The purpose of this function is to define strategies for proper governance of Safety, Health, and Emergency Response across all areas that make up the Alumar Consortium: Port & Retroport, Refinery, Bauxite Residue Dams, and Reduction. It sets guidelines for cultural change through influencing behaviors and coaching members of the ELA and other senior leaders at Alumar. It ensures the establishment of safety, health, and emergency response management processes that meet regulatory requirements, maintain HS licenses to operate, and protect the company’s reputation, including:

  • Defines strategies for governance of process safety, occupational safety, occupational hygiene, occupational health, and emergency response (involving people, materials, environment, and dams) at Alumar
  • Establishes short- and medium-term strategic plans together with operations for HS & Emergency governance, ensuring renewal of related operating licenses and compliance with commitments made to government agencies: AVCB with CBMMA and other permits with Health Surveillance, CENEN, COREN, CRM, SRT/MA, Federal Police.
  • Responsible for Emergency Response involving people, materials, and environmental aspects at Alumar, ensuring structuring, testing, and continuous improvement of the Port’s PEI (Environmental Emergency Plan as per CONAMA 306), the Plant’s PAE (Emergency Response Plan), and PAEB (Dam Emergency Response Plan).
  • Leads the process of strengthening health and safety culture through defining strategies, applying Human Performance Science, promoting safe behavior at all organizational levels, proposing appropriate action plans and best market practices.
  • Turns to be a member of Alumar’s leadership team with responsibility to influence peers (directors and other executive managers who make up the ELA) and act as a transformation agent for this group regarding HS leadership.

What you can bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health, or related field; postgraduate degree
  • Solid experience as a senior leader in H& S management in large-scale industries, preferably in mining, metallurgy, or logistics sectors;
  • Fluency in English / advanced English (non negotiable)
  • Knowledge of Brazilian regulatory standards, as well as international H& S standards (e.g., ISO 45001, 31000, OSHA Process Safety Management, etc);
  • Availability to work 100% on site in São Luis - Alumar
