J& J Innovative Medicine, is recruiting a Quality Control Manager within the Quality Control department, to be based in Latina (Italy) and reporting to the QC Director
The Latina site is the most innovative drug product (DP) manufacturing site in the J& J Supply Chain synthetic Platform. We ensure our life saving medicines reach the patient, safely, reliably, competitively, always. As the DP Launch and Grow site for the syntetic area, the site is closely connected with our R& D partners and with our API launch site in Geel, Belgium.
Position Summary
We are seeking a forward-thinking Quality Control Manager to lead and transform three laboratories responsible for release testing of packaging materials, raw materials, and finished products. In addition to managing a team of 50 dedicated professionals, this role requires a strategic leader with the ability to influence and implement change, optimize processes, and foster excellence throughout the organization. You will balance operational leadership with transformational initiatives to ensure Quality Control evolves to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing pharmaceutical landscape.
Quality Control Manager will be based in Latina, Italy and report directly to the QC Director.
The role requires experience in quality Control, knowledge of the Pharmaceutical processes and a strong ability to coach and mentor teams.
Main Challenges
- Change Management: Drive transformation by identifying improvement opportunities, implementing new technologies, and managing changes within workflows and organizational culture. Foster a team that embraces change and adapts to innovation seamlessly.
- Adherence to Budgets and Costs: Lead the QC department while maintaining strict adherence to financial budgets and operational costs, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality. Monitor spending, forecast resource needs, and find innovative ways to improve budget efficiencies.
- Talent Development: Mentor and coach your team, empowering them to achieve their personal and professional best. Build a culture of learning, development, and excellence while unlocking their full potential.
- Leadership in Action: Inspire and lead a team of 50 professionals across three laboratories, encouraging collaboration and high performance while delivering exceptional results under tight timelines.
- Streamlining Processes: Analyze current laboratory workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement innovative improvements to maximize efficiency and adaptability to changing industry standards.
- Stimulating Excellence: Motivate your team to consistently strive for excellence in execution—ensuring the highest quality across all QC testing activities.
- Organizational Collaboration: Build robust partnerships with departments across the organization (e.g., Manufacturing, Planning, Manufacturing) to align quality goals and create synergies that drive operational success. Be a visible leader, fostering integration and cooperation throughout the company.
- Negotiating Success: Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating exceptional communication and negotiation skills to align goals and resolve challenges.
- Excellence in Compliance: Lead the QC team to operate at the highest standards of GMP, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices, ensuring superior results every time.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop and execute strategic plans for optimizing laboratory operations and achieving long-term quality goals.
- Support, train, and coach team members to excel in their roles while fostering career growth and professional development.
- Drive day-to-day operations in the laboratories, ensuring on-time release testing for packaging materials, raw materials, and finished products.
- Build a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability within your team.
- Serve as a partner to cross-functional teams, aligning QC objectives with broader organizational goals.
- Lead the QC team in adopting innovative technologies and approaches to improve efficiency and reduce costs without sacrificing quality.
- Ensure compliance with GMP standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Track, monitor, and report on QC performance metrics, including cost management and adherence to budgets.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, or a related scientific field.
- Proven experience within the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop talent, creating a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, capable of fostering teamwork and achieving challenging objectives.
- Experience in optimizing workflows and implementing innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency and save costs.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and build relationships throughout the organization.
- Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills, adept at resolving conflicts and aligning teams.
- Solid knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, GMP, and regulatory requirements.
- Fluent language proficiency in English is vital
