Job Description
Conservation Legacy is hiring a Stewards VISTA: Appalshop - WMMT Community Radio Capacity- AmeriCorps in Jenkins, KY. This is a full-time position, and requiring a high school.

Living Allowance: $68.39/day ($24, 962.35/year)
Purpose:
As an AmeriCorps Program, Appalshop works to amplify Appalachian voices through community media, cultural preservation, and creative expression, with WMMT serving as a vital platform for local music, public affairs, and underrepresented perspectives. The program serves residents of Central Appalachia—including volunteers, artists, and community members—by promoting access to information, civic participation, and inclusive storytelling, guided by values of community empowerment, equity in media representation, collaboration, and respect for local culture and knowledge.
As an AmeriCorps Position, the member will strengthen WMMT’s capacity by developing systems for volunteer recruitment, training, and support, and by creating outreach tools and engagement strategies to expand community participation in station programming. The member will also build fund development infrastructure by researching underwriting and grant opportunities and developing tracking and outreach materials. This role enhances organizational sustainability and supports WMMT’s mission to serve as a trusted, community-centered media resource.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.
Description of Duties:
Member duties include:
·Develop new systems for DJ recruitment, orientation, scheduling, communication, and ongoing support ·Develop stronger community outreach strategies for staff to use for public programming, including ways to bring more people into the station as listeners, volunteers, participants, and partners ·Research underwriting prospects, updating underwriting materials, create outreach lists, and templates or tracking systems that staff can use to pursue local support ·May also develop a plan for grant research and draft reusable language about WMMT’s community impact ·Research new community and national partnerships that strengthen the program with new opportunities |
Qualifications:
·United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
·Must be 18 years of age
·High School Diploma/GED
·Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
Physical Requirements:

Time Requirements
·Typically, this position is expected to serve full-time (35-40 hours), but exact schedules may vary.
·Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
Orientation and Training:
·Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
·Member will receive a Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on their first day of service.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed their required year of service; the member has satisfactorily completed assignments; and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
