Conservation Legacy is hiring a Stewards VISTA: Appalshop – Media Institution Curriculum Training-AmeriCorps in Jenkins, KY. This is a full-time position, and requiring a high school.

Must serve a 365-day (1 year) service term

Living Allowance: $68.39/day ($24, 962.35/year)

Purpose:

Appalshop’s AmeriCorps Program advances community development and workforce readiness in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and across Central Appalachia by expanding access to media education, storytelling, and creative career pathways. Serving youth, educators, and community partners throughout rural Appalachian communities, the program works to strengthen local capacity for media literacy, creative skill-building, and cultural preservation. Guided by principles of community engagement, collaboration, education, and sustainability, the program supports long-term growth by building systems and resources that connect individuals to learning opportunities and creative industries.

In this AmeriCorps Position, the member will develop curriculum, training materials, outreach strategies, and program tools to support the expansion of the Appalachian Media Institute into a year-round education initiative. The member will also research funding opportunities and strengthen grant development resources to support program sustainability. This role builds organizational capacity and directly supports the mission of this AmeriCorps Program by enhancing program infrastructure and expanding access to media education across the region.

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.

Description of Duties:

Member duties include:

·Research model curricula in the field for best practices, and use findings to develop new curriculum for AMI students

·Create templates and processes that are replicable for other organizations to use

·Create systems for instructional learning by AMI students at Appalshop, and develop logistical framework for use during each teaching session

·Research new community and national partnerships that strengthen the program with new opportunities for staff to engage

·Create systems for applying to film festivals, web platforms, etc. to show AMI work

·Research and develop program sponsorships to identify grant applications

Qualifications:

·United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien

·Must be 18 years of age

·College graduate

·Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check

Time Requirements

·Typically, this position is expected to serve full-time (35-40 hours), but exact schedules may vary.

·Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.

Orientation and Training:

·Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.

·Member will receive a Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on their first day of service.

Evaluation and Reporting:

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed their required year of service; the member has satisfactorily completed assignments; and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.

Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
