Overview

We are seeking a full-time Cyber Security Engineer Intern in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for learning and training to become a Cyber Security Engineer that breaks into and/or finds possible exploits in computer systems, products, and software along with learning how to complete penetration testing assessment reports and working with subject matter experts to minimize risks/threats to Garmin. This position will execute pre-determined tests while also designing their own tests using creativity and imagination.

Essential Functions
  • Learn/perform penetration and security assessment testing for Garmin computer systems, products, and software on a global scale
  • Learn/conduct basic security audits from both a logical/theoretical standpoint and a technical/hands-on standpoint
  • Learn / gain proficiency with standard methods of reconnaissance, information gathering including network analysis, web application analysis, database analysis
  • Learn / gain proficiency with various methods of threat modeling and vulnerability assessment including vulnerability scanners, password crackers, network protocol attacks
  • Strong desire to gain experience of common penetration tools toward a deeper understanding of the technology that is needed to reveal vulnerabilities that standard tool proficiency does not
  • Driven to learn or gain experience with device hacking / reverse engineering of products/devices
Basic Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Relevant experience and/or training
  • Other education and/or experiences as required for the specific projects being developed
  • Fundamental understanding with industry trusted infrastructure and development penetration tools and with security, infrastructure, software development, and application technologies
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous experience working in a team environment
