Role

As a System Administrator Intern, you will gain valuable experience in server management and support. This internship provides a practical learning environment where you will assist with the maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of servers, endpoints and related infrastructure under the guidance of experienced staff. This is an excellent opportunity to kickstart your career in IT System Administration.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assisting with System Administration
  • Monitoring: Observing server performance, identifying potential issues, and alerting senior staff.
  • Troubleshooting: Assisting in diagnosing and resolving basic server problems under supervision.
  • Basic Tasks: Performing routine tasks like software updates, backups, and system restarts.

Learning and Development:
  • Hands-on Experience: Gaining practical experience in system and endpoint administration tasks.
  • Knowledge Acquisition: Learning about different server and endpoint operating systems, technologies, and tools.
  • Documentation: Contributing to the creation and maintenance of server and endpoint documentation.

Other Duties:
  • Support: Providing technical support to internal users as needed.
  • Communication: Communicating technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Adherence to Procedures: Following established procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Tech Services team to support day-to-day network operations


Experience
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools is a plus.
  • Operating systems - Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy); macOS
  • Networking basics - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP; subnetting and routing; VPNs and Remote Access
  • Hardware and infrastructure - understanding of servers, workstations and peripherals; virtualization (VMware)


Education/Certifications/Licenses
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications are preferred: CompTIA A+, Network + or Security+


Skills
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
  • Knowledge of network concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies.
