Job Description

Unity Physicians Hospital is hiring a Pt Care Assist in Mishawaka, IN. This is a full-time position.

Principal Functions: Functions under the supervision and direction of the Surgical Services Leaders, and Pre/Post Registered Nurses to assist in providing care to the surgical patients. Pre/Post Position Duties: 1. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. 2. Takes and records patients' temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and weight according to hospital procedure. 3. Cleans and makes stretchers. 4. Assists with the clip and skin prep prior to surgery. 5. Assists patients in obtaining nourishment at the direction of the PACU nurse. 6. Assists patients to the bathroom and transports patients to various hospital departments by bed or stretcher. Assists patients up to chair. 7. Assembles patients chart for newly admitted surgical/procedural patients. Dismantles outpatient charts when discharged. 8. Greets and directs patients and visitors, and orients patients to the unit. 9. Answers telephone calls, responds to routine inquiries, and relays other calls and messages. Responds to patients needs and notifies appropriate personnel of patients requests. 10. Performs EKG testing at the direction of the RN. 11. Performs Blood Glucose Testing at the direction of RN and performs daily quality control checks. 12. Perform urine pregnancy testing at the direction of the RN. 13. Maintains a positive and pleasant attitude. 14. Other duties as assigned. Other Position Duties: 1. Demonstrates age-appropriate competency skills and knowledge, ability to perform skills specific to patient population identified in unit specific skill list. 2. Responsible for knowing the lifting requirements of the job and requesting assistance when appropriate. 3. Performs related clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, running errands. 4. Contributes to Performance Improvement activities. 5. Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic, or oral disclosures. 6. Displays concern and initiative. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies. 7. Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences. 8. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors. Conducts patient and family rounding at the direction of the Surgical Services Leaders or Director. Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital polices that apply to assigned duties.Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
