Primary Purpose of the Role

Pre-Production Designer is responsible for the day-to-day designing artwork that will then be sent to pre-press for trapping and plate separation. Collaborative relationship building with peer managers, the management of subordinate staff, achieving production goals, making sound design decisions and resolving issues that might arise with the artwork before going to pre-press. Help with image creation.

Essential Job Duties
  • Learn about flexographic printing processes such as ink capabilities, file preparation, color separations and trapping.
  • Knowledge with Mac OS systems and Adobe Creative Suite programs. Especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Establish a well-rounded design onto production templates and quality control standards.
  • Understanding Customer Style Guides and customer expectations, therefore making sure that the artwork is functional for pre-press capabilities.
  • Collaboration with the design team on any unforeseen production problems when reviewing artwork
  • Supporting the Pre-Production Manager in any other required tasks
  • Deliver to Marketing any required graphic or image needs as directed under tight deadlines
  • Create 3D images for displays and retail concepts
  • Knowledge with package design is a plus
  • Knowledge with working on a DAM. (Digital Asset Management) Platform.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple project requests on a daily basis while meeting due dates on a consistent basis
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
  • Design & Illustration skills are a plus
  • A strong understanding of Flexography printing processes helpful
  • Strong knowledge in trapping, separations, usage of Spot and Process Colors
  • Must be well versed in design layout and making sure overall design is visually pleasing as well as functional for final approvals.
  • Detail oriented
  • Extremely Organized and able to multi-task many different accounts all at the same time
  • Must work well under pressure and keep track of project time management
  • Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to quickly adapt and make critical decisions with artwork
  • Must have capability to learn quickly and manage projects collaboratively, in a fast-moving department
  • Minimum Associate Degree in Commercial Art
  • Preferred Bachelors Degree in Commercial Art
  • 0-3 years of related work experience
