Job Summary

Within the US Companion Animal business unit of Elanco Animal Health, the purpose of the position is to serve as the first-line manager of Sales Representatives within the Great Lakes geography. This manager will be responsible for leading and motivating Representatives to accomplish the sales and planned objectives of the District within the allocated resources. The employee will play a critical role in the overall planning and execution of business strategy for the Companion Animal Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Talent Acquisition

  • Recruitment: Lead the recruiting, interviewing, and selecting of a high-performing team of representatives to represent Elanco’s companion animal products.

  • Coaching: Provide consistent, high-quality field coaching to enhance selling skills, technical knowledge, and territory management.

  • Performance Management: Set clear expectations, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback. Responsible for performance management and succession planning.

  • Culture: Foster a diverse, inclusive, and high-engagement team culture aligned with Elanco’s values.

2. Strategic Sales & Business Execution

  • Sales Objectives: Responsible for achieving specified District sales objectives across all product categories.

  • Business Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive business plans for the district, including utilization of all provided resources to accomplish planned objectives.

  • Corporate Accounts: Develop and execute business plans with corporate veterinary account headquarters within the district’s defined geography.

  • Channel Partners: Execute business plans of channel partners in coordination with the Sales Manager and the Sr. Executive Representative responsible for each partner.

  • Marketing Implementation: Ensure the implementation of marketing plans through representatives to key veterinary hospitals and across all channel partners.

3. Analysis & Resource Management

  • Metrics Evaluation: Responsible for the analysis and evaluation of reporting metrics and business reports.

  • Resource Optimization: Ensure the strategic placement and utilization of resources for maximum business results and market share growth.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Experience: Minimum of at least 5 years’ experience in companion animal veterinary pharmaceutical sales or sales training experience in the companion animal veterinary industry.

  • Legal Authorization: Must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position.

Additional Skills / Preferences

  • Leadership: Strong coaching and leadership skills to deliver maximum results; ability to influence without authority.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of companion animal veterinary products and the broader Companion Animal Market.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent speaking and presentation skills; ability to convey messages and motivate various audiences.

  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions within the context of uncertainty and ambiguity.

  • Strategic Thinking: Strong planning and executional skills.

  • Preferred Experience: Advanced degree in business or work experience as a sales trainer are both considered positive attributes.
