This is a temporary, short-term assignment based in Chicago, Il.

At Vitalant, we are united by our mission of saving lives through blood donation. We are seeking a seasoned Senior Consultant, People Relations to play a key role in fostering a respectful, compliant, and high-performing workplace.

This role serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, leading complex employee relations matters, conducting investigations, and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on employee relations, workplace compliance, and employment law
  • Lead fair, neutral, and thorough internal investigations; document findings and present clear, fact-based recommendations
  • Partner with leaders and HR colleagues to resolve employee concerns, performance issues, and policy questions
  • Provide coaching and guidance on performance management and conflict resolution
  • Collaborate with Legal on escalated matters as needed
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs (including state-specific requirements such as CA, IL, WA)
  • Identify organizational risks and recommend proactive solutions aligned with business and people strategies
  • Support HR initiatives and cross-functional projects as assigned


Requirements

What You Bring


Education & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws (EEO, ADA, wage & hour, etc.)
  • Advanced expertise in employee relations practices and investigation protocols
Experience
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience
  • At least 4 years conducting internal investigations and resolving complex employee relations matters
  • Experience interpreting and applying employment laws and HR policies in a multi-state environment
Certifications (Preferred)
  • SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or similar advanced HR certification
  • Dispute resolution certification is a plus
Skills & Competencies
  • Demonstrated objectivity, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and report-writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution capabilities
  • Ability to influence and advise leaders at all levels
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to travel approximately 75%
